Pretty much something someone made up, but many ppl think is true. So here are some facts for you . The temperature of the earth has increased less than 7/10 of 1 degree (C) from 1880 to 2005. That is an increase of about 1 degree (F) in 125 years. You may choose to believe that is global warming or you may not. Source: http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/2005/2005cal_fig1.gif There are numerous charts all over the internet showing the same. Some say that 1 degree is enough to impact the global climate, others say it's not. Most proponents of global warming think the earth's temperature has risen much more than that and don't even know that it has only risen by 1 degree. But the charts do not lie as do the proponents on both sides of this issue. The average temperature in the Antarctica is 109 degrees below zero. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antarctica#Climate It seems to me 108 below (one degree warmer) is still pretty cold and not enough to melt anything. But there are those that say it will.
Back in the '70s all the hype was about global COOLING and another ice age was coming. I remember that they blamed pollution for that too. They said that all the pollution was darkening the skies and not as much sun was coming through so the earth was cooling off. It took many years to discover that they were mistaken and it was all just hype. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_cooling So when someone says, "the sky is falling" don't believe everything you hear on either side of the issue. There are Spin Doctors galore out there.
Most of the time people will form an opinion and not really be informed about the subject with which they become so opinionated about. So it's best that you not form your opinions from other's opinions, (as in this forum) but on the facts presented. (Many do not provide any proof or links to prove their point, just their opinion.) With that said we do have a responsibility to do our part by doing whatever is within your power to keep our planet alive and well.
I hope that helps...
I'm not sure if Tenacious is calling me a dork, but if he is why is it that I gave references to my facts and he didn't?

Now these two dorks have ni idea what they are talking about.
Global Warming isn't made up. In fact, it is a natural process that Earth undergoes every 150,000 years or so. Global Warming is the point at which Earth reaches its hottest temperature due to its axis. Also Ice Age is apart of this rotation. This is the coldest temperature on Earth.
As those 150,000 years go by, it slowy gets colder until it reaches Ice Age, then it goes back up slowly and does the process again.
We are nearly at the natural peak of Global Warming(we won't see the natural peak in our lifetime). Because we have burned fuel fossils, polluted Earth in many ways, and have been irresponsible, we have caused some damage.
Earth's Global Warming to Ice Age process in going to be off balance now. The natural peak of GW has already been exceeded by 4 to 5 times or more and will continue to go higher. The polar ice caps will melt by 2100 and 200 million or so refugees will be looking for shelter. Hurricanes like KATRINA will be more frequent. Extreme storms will be more common. Drought as well as flooding will be an issue in major agricultural nations.
Global Warming is the cause of man because of the pollution that has been caused. It is a threat to life. Think about it, we don't have proof that life is anywhere else. Just here on Earth.

Global warming simply put is the natural warming and cooling that the earth has been going thru for millions of years there are also mini warming and cooling like during the middle ages when Greenland was actually green instead of covered with ice like it is now.
Many people for whatever reasons have have a overinflated view of man and think that we can affect this planet that easily but in truth with probably have about as much affect as a fly on a elephants a**s

Global warming is exactly what it sounds like it is. It's an observed or predicted increase in average global temperatures over a certain period of time.
Quite a few people mistakenly believe the term "global warming" referes to the observed increase in temperatures due to anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases. When in fact, global warming refers to any climate shift in which the mean global temperatures increase.

Media Shows Irrational Hysteria on Global Warming
"The Public Has Been Vastly Misinformed," NCPA's Deming Tells Senate Committee

WASHINGTON, Dec. 6 /U.S. Newswire/ -- David Deming, an associate professor at the University of Oklahoma and an adjunct scholar with the National Center for Policy Analysis (NCPA), testified this morning at a special hearing of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. The hearing examined climate change and the media. Bellow are excerpts from his prepared remarks.
"In 1995, I published a short paper in the academic journal Science. In that study, I reviewed how borehole temperature data recorded a warming of about one degree Celsius in North America over the last 100 to 150 years. The week the article appeared, I was contacted by a reporter for National Public Radio. He offered to interview me, but only if I would state that the warming was due to human activity. When I refused to do so, he hung up on me.
"I had another interesting experience around the time my paper in Science was published. I received an astonishing email from a major researcher in the area of climate change. He said, "We have to get rid of the Medieval Warm Period." "The Medieval Warm Period (MWP) was a time of unusually warm weather that began around 1000 AD and persisted until a cold period known as the "Little Ice Age" took hold in the 14th century. ... The existence of the MWP had been recognized in the scientific literature for decades. But now it was a major embarrassment to those maintaining that the 20th century warming was truly anomalous. It had to be "gotten rid of."
"In 1999, Michael Mann and his colleagues published a reconstruction of past temperature in which the MWP simply vanished. This unique estimate became known as the "hockey stick," because of the shape of the temperature graph. "Normally in science, when you have a novel result that appears to overturn previous work, you have to demonstrate why the earlier work was wrong. But the work of Mann and his colleagues was initially accepted uncritically, even though it contradicted the results of more than 100 previous studies. Other researchers have since reaffirmed that the Medieval Warm Period was both warm and global in its extent.
"There is an overwhelming bias today in the media regarding the issue of global warming. In the past two years, this bias has bloomed into an irrational hysteria. Every natural disaster that occurs is now linked with global warming, no matter how tenuous or impossible the connection. As a result, the public has become vastly misinformed."
