I think you are asking the wrong question! The problem is not that the dog is dangerous, it is the OWNER that is irresponsible and reckless! Pets are the OWNERS responsibility to train and keep safe! Not all dogs are dangerous, only the ones who's owners don't CARE!

There is an element of risk in everything we do, how we manage the risk is what is really important. And the reward for properly managing risk can be great.

Domesticated dogs have been "man's best friend" for thousands of years, they provide loyal companionship and company. They reward their owners with affection and attention. Some dogs do have a disposition towards aggression, but then so do some people. If the dog is trained and socialised then it will know how to interact and behave.

Lazy owners who neglect to do this run the risk of the dog behaving badly or even reverting back to it's wild state. Owners are the root cause of dangerous dogs.

I have had giant dogs for the last 20 years and never had a problem. I wouldn't leave any dog alone with my children when they were small and wouldn't let them out to roam on there own. My dogs have all been well socialised and trained from the earliest possible age. I have been hit by a drunk driver and had my neck broken. I've also been hit by another driver who wasn't paying attention and damaged my lower back. I've been attacked by a mentaly ill woman who was released from hospital because there wasn't enough staff for the ward. I've come off horses and damaged various bones but I've never been bitten by a dog!!

why do you choose to travel places for instance a car or bus or bike to work or the supermarket or even to the docs or dentists?? even if you dont use any transport surely you must walk places?? this is risky business in itself as who know what will happen to you when out and about
dogs are not dangerous it is the owners that are dangerous
the same as kids really if you dont bring your kids up with respect for people and things and teach them manners and stuff too then they too will be dangerous and god knows what else!

the danger comes from uneducated people not knowing how to properly train and socialize a dog. this is no different than someone taking a car, and having no knowledge of how to drive or steer it and getting on the highway and stepping on the gas. some dogs by their sheer size can cause more damage, but any dog no matter the size can be aggressive if not trained and socialized correctly.

I've had dogs for many years and I don't consider dog-owning to be a high-risk situation either for myself or anyone else.

The dogs are well-trained, friendly and get me out and about. I enjoy exercising, grooming, feeding and playing with them. I think they are lovely to look at, amusing, affectionate and I think I was just born liking dogs, cats and most other animals.

I feel safe in my home knowing that my dogs are with me. Although they are friendly they will bark at intruders which is all that I want them to do. I have had German Shepherds who have shown every indication that they would attack to protect me but on each occasion the dogs were under my control and the threat was enough

I'm aware of their strength and their ability to do harm but I have educated myself to understand dogs, to avoid any situations that might provoke them and to treat them with respect.

The majority of the horrific attacks by dogs on children could have been avoided if the dogs had been properly controlled and the children supervised. Who in their right mind would allow a potentially dangerous dog, of any breed, access to a small child on its own?

I think that humans are probably the most dangerous animal on the planet. We attack, maim and kill each other using the most horrible devices.

There are many no-go areas in our towns and cities and many people do not go out after dark not because they are frightened of dogs but because they are frightened of other people.

The awful attacks by dogs on people, particularly children, hit the headlines but watch any news bulletin or read any newspaper and you will find that most of the 'news' is about conflict and terror, child abuse and rape. drive-by killings and unprovoked attacks.

Despite all this I try to keep a sense of perspective about mankind - I suggest you do the same about dogs.

Unfortunately there are very bad owners who have dogs just for their fighting ability. There are also ignorant owners who have no idea on how to control their dogs, and just blame the animal. It is not the animal's fault, just the fault of their owners, but unfortunately the animal pays the ultimate price, usually death.

Dogs aren't dangerous, per se. The danger comes from an owner who has failed to socialize and train their canine companion.

out of all the pets i had the most dangerous one i owned was a cat.

its all about proper care and trainning. most "dangerous" animals are that way because of irresponable owners
