Well, one way to go about it is to ask his friends what he thinks of you. And, if you don't want to get rejected really bad, then just, someday when you are talking with him, ask him if he'd ever considered a relationship with you. "Hey, have you ever thought about what it would be like if we went out?" And then, there's always the straight-forward flirting. Just touch his arm or something, not like you're coming onto him, just friendly/"I like you."

you should go up to him and say that you like him...but careful so that you don't break up the great friendship....b/c you may end up going out and when broken up not talk to each other anymore...it's been 8 years!!!! if i were you i would be friends with benefits...i wouldn't wanna go out with him, b/c from overhearing and experience, close friends who go out end up being enimies...i don't think you would want that to happen to you....i wouldn't.... good luck, k?
