Get pictures of you and her son together in a picture album so she has a keepsake of you two. If you have children, also include precious pictures of them that she would really enjoy. I know that it would be something my mother in law would really appreciate and cherish.

My mother-in-law will be 77 this year and she says this is the best gift she has ever received and I did it for my Aunt & Uncle and they loved it too. For Christmas I used Printmaster Platinum software and made fancy colored coupons for each month of the year. For instance:

January-Dinner at my House anytime during the month of Jan.
February-Invitation to play a Game of Cards with the family
March-Invite her over to watch a movie of her choice.
April-Wash her Vehicle
May-Take her out to Dinner
June-An afternoon of shopping
July-2 Hours of Scrapbooking at her house
August-Take her to a movie
September-Trip to the Casino
October-Drive her Around to look at the Fall Foliage
November- Take her to some Craft Shows
December-Afternoon of Christmas Shopping

I printed in small letters at the bottom of the coupon that the issuer would decide the date and time the event would take place. Also, the coupon stated it never expired in case I couldn't fit her in one month and it just carried over to the next year. I clipped each coupon to a each month of a small calendar and placed in a envelope and put on a big bow.

I got my mother in law a framed needle work of this poem ...she loved it. This is a good gift ...only if you like your mother in law :P

You are the other Mother I received,
The day I wed your son.
And I want to thank you Mom,
For the loving things you've done.
You've given me a gracious Man,
With whom I share my life.
You are his lovely Mother,
And I his lucky Wife.
You used to pat his little head,
And now I hold his hand.
You raised in love a little boy,
And then gave me the Man.

if you have children you could do a collage of pictures of them for her or something sentimental along that lines
sometimes the best things are what you can make -- it's amazing the ideas you can find for ways to spruce up a pic and make it something unique
