Don't worry!
I had all 4 out when I was about 19. Yes, they put you to sleep for a short time (45 minutes).
This is how it works:
You don't eat anything the night before (they don't want you to vomit while you are asleep, then breathe it in by accident)
You go in and sit in a chair like a dentists chair, and they put an iv into your arm. It doesn't hurt.
They tell you that you will feel sleepy, and the next thing you know, you will be awake with a numb mouth, a scratchy throat, and a mouthful of gauze. You won't believe you even went to sleep until you realize how drugged out you are.
Someone will have to drive you home. Make sure they stop on the way home and get your painkillers at the pharmacy. You will need to start taking them before your anesthesia wears off....otherwise, you will have more pain than you need.
You won't be able to eat anything for several hours. Don't eat any soup. You will burn yourself, and not even know it. They won't want you to drink anything out of a straw either, because the suction could cause bleeding.
If you have to eat, eat ice cream...it can't hurt you.
My face swelled along the jaw a little, and had a greenish tint for a couple days. Ice helps the swelling. You'll be fine in no time. It is much better to get the teeth pulled than wait until later in life.
It all hurt a teeny bit, but as long as you take your meds, you will be just fine. Also, take your antibiotics exactly as the directions tell you, and take them ALL. That way you won't get an infection....THEY hurt!

You are having all four third molars surgically extracted. My guess is they are impacted and need to go. At any rate, having it done under IV sedation is the way to go. You will be pretty groggy the first day, but do take your prescribed pain med's as directed and use the ice packs the first 24 hrs. It's easier to stop the pain before it starts rather than wait until you're hurting and try to get it to stop. You may experience some pain the next day, which is normal. Just keep taking the pain med's and the Advil or Motrin that were prescribed. Most of this pain is associated with just having your mouth stretched open for the procedure. Follow your doctors instructions and you'll be fine. Do the recommended jaw stretching exercises also, it really does help with the muscle relaxation. Good luck!

I had all 4 of mine cut out when I was 18. It didn't hurt the first day, but the next 3 or 4 days were a little tender. Just keep the holes washed out real good. They provided plenty of pain pills which helped a lot. I just laid down for the first day then I was up and back to work. They put me to sleep with an IV in the back of my hand and gas and some headphones.

It depends on you body and how impacted the teeth are. I had my done at 18 was down for 4 days was back at school and work in about week. My husband had them done at 26 because of Navy he was a wake for the whole thing he was good after 24 hours but his where not impacted. What hurts if you get dry socket/s or an infection. The most important part is do what you doc tell you do to the tee. PS frozen pea or corn work great as ice packs they form to the face.

I had all 4 removed on a Thursday. I felt crummy Thur and Fri, and went to the mall Saturday. They put me to sleep. your jaw will be black and blue and swell starting about 3 days after the teeth are removed, going down by the 8th day. I was not in pain when I woke up. It hurt for a day or 2, but they gave me tylenol with codenine which was very effective. Looking back, the worst thing was the constipation I experienced on Saturday and Sunday.

Everyone reacts differently so don't put too much weight on what my experience was... but I had all four wisdom teeth pulled when I was 30!! They did put me to sleep and before I knew it, it was over. I pretty much slept for the first day. They gave me Tylenol with codeine to help with the pain, but honestly...I never had to use it. I had a little swelling and bruising for about 2-3 days.
They will give you an instruction sheet before you leave, but trust me on this....DO NOT use any straws to drink with and if you smoke...DO NOT for the first 24-48 hours. The act of sucking in causes what is called "dry socket" and if that happens -- whoo boy, you will be hurtin' for certain. I know people who had it (because they didn't listen to instructions) and they were in agony.
Other than that, it really wasn't too bad an experience overall.

I had all 4 removed too. They put me to sleep due to my anxiety. I was amazingly fine the next day. Have soup, jello and lots of liquids on hand. I found after the freezing was out I had some discomfort but with the pain medication they supplied I was O.K.

I didnt get put to sleep an it wasnt too cool for me, but you wont have one idea whats going on at all, and when you wake up, ull be medicated by then an everything, so you wont feel much pain! Honestly, you will be fine like in 2 days.

This is the best way to do it. You aren't put all the way to sleep. It is kind of like being in a suspended state. You shouldn't feel anything and should only need to be in bed until the meds wear off. You will do fine!

Once the teeth are out there is no pain. It is more uncomfortable than painful. I had mine out but two at a time as they were compacted, and they put me to sleep. Woke up and I was fine. Just wanted some ice cream, as I was starving. 2nd day I was eating nearly normally. You will be fine.
