WTF! God where do some of these people pull these answers from... There a.s.s.e.s I would guess. Ok I go to Downtown all the time, I have never been held up, robbed, shot, gay bashed, gang raped/raped by a gang, offered drugs or harassed while I have been there. Some people would say that it not safe to be out after dark, but I find that to be untrue as well. Listen most of downtown is safe ofcouse I wouldn't go walking around on the east downtown only because that's skid row. My tip to you is be aware of your surroundings don't go walking around in dark alleys and just think...

There is no "downtown" in LA in the usual sense. What is referred to on the map as "downtown" is just office buildings and the area is mostly empty on evenings and weekends. During the day, it's professional working people. LA has a lot of different neighborhoods spread out over a large area. Some of the dangerous areas are South Central, Compton. These are not called "downtown".

You're question made me laugh. Do you want to know specifically what is dangerous?
See previous poster. You probably will never have a problem. Use common sense. Get a Thomas Guide Map Book and learn how to use it so you don't get lost. Carry insurance. Don't cell phone and drive. Don't drive like an asshole.
I don't think people realize most of the violent crime is gang-related. Just stay out of gangs.

When my husband works downtown filming commercials, homeless people throw feces out of windows at the crew...
After dark, they constantly hear gunshots...
Their cars are frequently broken into if parked in a dark area....
If I were a tourist, I certainly wouldn't wander around down there after dark!

Most of Los Angeles is dangerous, Hollywood too. Lots of gangs, looting, prostitues, and David Beckham fans.
