My best friend was kind enough to give me her Kodak EasyShare CX7430. Granted its a older model, but I was wondering what are the advantages of downloading the software for the kodak website? This is my first digital camera and had no idea that software was needed. Any help for be apperciated!

Software is not needed.
You can download the pics without it.
If you do want software
You can go to kodak.com
and download the manual and software.

downloading the software could give you access to special programs to use with your camera.
for example my Canon software gave me the ability to do time elapsed pics.
Also makes sure you have latest drivers and frmware for your camera
never hurts to check it out

Mostly- it's not at all necessary.
something like Picasa2 (a free download from google) is all you need.
