My son was never afraid of play-doh...What you may like to try is sitting with him and play with it with him, show him what different shapes you can do with play-doh. Make a round ball and roll it. Make a snowman out of it. My son has one of those big buckets with all the different shapes and stuff you do with play-doh. show him how it's like cutting cookies with a cookie cutter, do a few first, have him watch you. Then tell him to make a shape to..talk with him about it. Talk about play-doh, how it feels, the neat shapes it makes. Cool....Have Fun!!!!

Explain what it is and that its a toy. Do you know what ALWAYS works. Say "but it wants to give you huggies and kissies." braik of a little peice about as big as her thumb nail and DONT tell him/her its playdoh . Let the child play with it and then put a little more into the clumb and then at the end the child will like it! if it doesn't work its just playdoh.

This question made me laugh...remembering that was the age my daughter shoved it up her nose. The only time I have ever had to use the nose-sucker thingy! Anyway, maybe you could make home-made play-doh and not tell him/her the name of it. That way you can see if it's a texture thing or something someone told them.

That is hilarious! Just keep her away from it & try again in a few weeks or so. The plus side is you won't have to pick up after her playing with it & throwing it all over the floor. LOL

My two-year-old was a little freaked out the first time we showed him Play-Doh, but now he can't get enough of it.
Perhaps if you show your two-year-old how you, the adult, can play with Play-Doh & nothing bad happens to you when you do. And if it looks like you're having fun with it (and do ham up how much fun you're having), maybe your two-year-old will want to play with it. Just an idea.
Long story short, I wouldn't worry. Your toddler likely will soon outgrow a fear of Play-Doh. In no time, you will be cleaning Play-Doh out of every conceivable crevice in your house, just like all other parents of toddlers around the country. ;)

Somehow your child was around someone who told him/her to be afraid of it. Put the stuff away, for 6 months to a year, and then bring it out again - do this slowly and smile while playing with it. By this time he/she will have forgotten about the fear and enjoy playing with it.

PHOBIA'S
Usually everyone has one... Even though some of the smallest things can be very comical to witness. My husband runs at the sight of a cotton ball. It's hilarious.
Don't worry it will all work out.

Toddlers are Great. This is one you will have to write down for your child so you can remember it together. My son is scared of the "Big pictures" of people at stores. Like giant babies above the baby departments. All kids are scared of something. But my son gets over things as he changes and grows. He used to be afraid of my hairdryer and all sorts of other things. And as kids imaginations grow they are more likely to be afraid of things that we have no concept of. (the drain sucking them down, vacuums sucking them up, on and on).
