I would recommend 6-8 weeks notice for people to plan. Plus, that is near a holiday and in the summer and a lot of people will have other plans. For example, I've already RSVP'd to a wedding on 7/7/07.

It depends on the occasion. For a wedding or something similar, it should be at least a month in advance. Since it's the summer, I would say even earlier because people go away on vacation.

If you do it too soon in advance, people will forget. A month at the most, unless special arrangements need to be made.
