Is it really difficult to get an anti-war protest together in San Francisco? And, is Frisco really indicative of the rest of our country?

Well, it's not like we have anti-war protests every other week in this city, but I'm sure it's easier to do here than a lot of other areas. There's another protest being organized for January 27, but the main push there will be in Washington D.C. It's easy to single out San Francisco because it is traditionally very liberal, but it's certainly not the only place in the country where you'll find people protesting the war.

It may not be indicative of the rest of the country on every issue, but with regards to the War in Iraq, I think it's reasonable to say that if more people felt that protesting made a difference, you'd see them in droves.

The thing people should realize is that every plan the Democrats have put forth for ending the war is still only tentative. If they feel that there will be a significant backlash if they, say, cut funding for the war, then all their threats to the president will prove hollow. By demonstrating in the streets you show them that you are serious enough about ending the war that they need not fear losing your vote over controversial legislation.

People protest for or against many issues. There are times when such protests bring about change, sometimes not. Still, I totally embrace that we have the right to protest. And at least San Francisco has taken advantage of that right, as have many other areas that we never hear about. I disagree that more support the war than don't.The media does not report on what can be called the "silent majority." Except for war mongers, and those who let others think for them (via news items, Fox 5, CNN, etc) I believe that most in this country are tired of this war; tired of Bush; tired of death and destruction.

San Fransisco is not indicative of anything but left , way left.
It will play itself out to the American public.

. . i see no point in a peaceful protest anyway ... a protest with "free-speech areas" and coralled by the police, and ignored by the media, is by definition .. ineffectual.
