Soak it in milk for a few hours, then pound out the fillets and bread them - chicken friend venison steaks.

Well, firstly if your deer tastes gamy it was probably not treated right in the field to begin with. It is a sad tragedy that many hunters, not knowing any better, will harvest an absolutely wonderful animal that when properly treated would be right at home at some of the finest restaurants in the country and will ruin it with improper field care.

The best way to deal with slightly gamy meat is to use a marinade. Another trick is to soak it in milk for a couple of hours. This works well with dishes like good old "chicken fried steak".

If you're talking deer burger, you can mix some regular ground beef with it and it helps tone down the "wild" taste. Also, marinating can help. Use zesty Italian dressing as a marinade or lemon juice. Most all of my venison dishes, I add beef or pork to tone the taste down.

When i went hunting with my dad over the summer in southern mountains of Iran, we would hunt ram, and it tastes very similar to deer. When we would gut the ram, however, we would pick various herbs including fresh mint and rosemary that naturally grew on the mountains and would sort of season them with lemon juice on the meat. Then we would make kabobs out of the meat, and i must say, dey r quite tasty!

Most hunters these days know how to clean their kill. If your hunter did, then you should cook it similarly to beef. Venison, well killed and well prepared, shouldn't be gamie. Talk to your mother-in-law about the hunter.

If the kill is fresh, there shouldn't be any gamey taste to it. If it's been frozen, though, that may be the problem. I'd suggest a strong, wine-based marinade with plenty of spices.

Properly dressed venison is not gamey. If you were unfortunate enough to get game that was not properly dressed then soak it in milk.
