Max. Effective range on the A2 is 550m IIRC, but the Army doesn't qualify on paper anymore; we qualify on the "trainfire" system, which is a known distance range with popup targets placed at various distances. The longest range you will have to shoot in an Army training environment is 300m, unless you go to Squad Designated Marksman or Sniper school.

The m-16 rifle is very accuret, my brother made expert marksman while in basic training and he said the m 16 is damb accuret and has a very high mussle velosity, the only thing he did not like about it was the fact that it is only 5.56mm. He told me that there was an investigation during desert storm because most of the enemy bodys were shot in the head, the government thought that our solders were executing iraqi insergents, but what was really happening is those insurgents were using cover and only there head was exposed, so the only place to shoot them was in the head, and the m 16 was accuret enough to do so.
