It has to do with faith, and the spirit.
I would always prophesies during the time right before I would wake up, where I was aware of my surroundings, but still in a dreamlike state. I knew when I was prophesying because of a certain feeling I would get, then it would come to pass the same day, a few days or weeks or months later. I am waiting for 2014 to see if one will come true.

Jesus teaches that the Holy Spirit is a comforter while the anti-christ teaches that the Holy Spirit gives select people gifts, who do you follow? Jesus even warned us that the slave is never equal to the Master, But the slave who calls himself Paul speaks for the master and changes the rules? Prophecy is uttered out of love, not hate and gives benefits to those who follow the new path prophecied.

If you are asking according to the Bible in Romans 12, which is the only place that mentions prophecy as a gift (charisma) it reads:verse 6 "Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith" A prophet is one who is committed to truth and so is one who proclaims God's truth. Prophets are often blinded to everything other than truth which is paramont to them and also is their weakness. A prophet is supposed to prophesy according to the proportion of his faith, and since "faith comes from hearing and hearing by the word of God" then prophets are to prophecy according to how well they know the Bible. Since revelation has ended (Rev 22) today prophets need to study the Bible to get understanding of God's truth and then proclaim it according to how deep a knowledge they have of it.

Prophecy in itself is the spiritual ability to foretell and forthtell the will and knowledge of God. When we forthtell, we speak for Him to others; when we foretell, we share with others a portion of God's plans and purposes for them, either in the immediate present or in the future.
The ability to prophesy operates on many levels. First, there is corporate prophecy (1 Cor. 14), which is the ability of any believer at any given time to express the will of God to a body of believers as the Holy Spirit allows. This is usually used to offer comfort and encouragement to the body as a whole, and often comes in the form of interpretation of an utterance in tongues.
Secondly, there is the gift of prophecy, a special ability given to specific believers to foretell and forthtell the will of God to others (1 Cor. 12:4-7). This is an ability that is stronger than the previous, given to a believer to regularly operate in as a ministry ability to build up others, provide answers to prayer, encourage and comfort, and provide direction.
Thirdly, there is the office of a prophet (Eph. 4:8-11). This is a ministry calling, where the person's whole life is in the gift, not just the gift in the person. They are part of the 5-fold ministry, whose job it is to build up and mature the body of Christ. The prophet operates like a mouth piece for God to the body, giving correction, direction, reproof, guidance, operating in greater authority in the body.
How do you know when you have the gift? Understand this: we operate as creatures of time, moving in one direction in time-- forward. We can't revisit the past or move forward into the future. We can only experience the present, day by day. But in the spirit realm, God lives in eternity, which is outside of time. He sees the past, present and future all at once. When God shares the events of the future to someone in time, it is known to us as prophecy, information received from eternity and expressed in time.
When a person has a spiritual gift of this sort, he receives by his spirit information that comes from eternity; he gets a glimpse of the past, present or future, which is a small portion of God's knowledge. When it's a fact from the past or present or future, it's a Word of knowledge. When it's direction or guidance regarding the past, present or future, it's a word of wisdom.
Your faith is a sense of your spirit that allows you to know if what you have received is from God or from your own spirit; the more you practice sharing, the stronger your ability to tell the difference will become, and the more your faith to operate in the gift will increase. Faith is like a muscle; it must be exercised to grow!

Yea it has to do with faith and KNOWING its from God, but ask a leader, you have to have permission, not that God doesnt want you to prophisy. But its just making sure you dont lead others astary. ASK a leader, thats the best thing- to cover ALL your bases ♥

If you are a prophet you wont know, God will hide it from you, we can only our sins, so that we don't steal God's Glory. A Christian won't glorified about themselves, but let others say it, even Jesus ran away when they try to make him king. John said I am not the one. Isaiah and Jeremias and all people chosen by God always saw constantly their weakens.

You mean, how do I know when I have a premonition? Well, its pretty damned obvious when I have the vision, and then its shown to be true after (vision: family member dies, truth: it actually happened the way I saw it in my head).
Has nothing at all to do with any god though.
