Jealous feelings?

Today our school let out early because of bad weather, and our class was goofing around waiting for bus numbers to be called. The guy I like sits near me, and another girl who likes him sits diagonal from both me and him. We were talking nicely like the good friends we are, when she pulls out her flute and begins to play. He was watching her the rest of the time. I was SO jealous and wanted to slap her or something. Is it normal to have jealous feelings around this guy? He told me good-bye, and he even touched my fingers briefly when I was showing him my callused fingers from playing the violin. Could he like me? Is it all right to be jealous?

It is normal and OK to feel jealous. The important thing is whether you ACT on the jealousy or not. If you had ACTUALLY slapped the girl, then that would NOT be normal. Your feelings are normal, but you should also know in your logical mind that reacting to her playing the flute by slapping her would be too much. (although it might be a little rude as it sounds like she interrupted your conversation) A normal response might be a dirty look or a "hey, could you do that another time please? We were talking." Yes, it sounds like he might like you. In any case, it sounds like he doesn't DISLIKE you. So keep getting to know him. Maybe you can invite him to do something outside of school so you won't have to worry about her being around.
