I really need help. ONLY serious people please. I have had a tooth that has needed a root canal for a while now. I had it cleaned once and they put a temp filling and meds in it back in December. My root canal was scheduled for April! (My insurance sucks! I can only go to one dentist and they are bookled soilid all the time!) Well, I just went to the dentist at 9:45 yesterday because I was in such severe pain. It turns out that she didn't do it right and now the infection is in my bone! I am on antibiotics and Vicodin and Ibuprofen. I have been taking 600mg of ibuprofen every 4 hours and 500/5 mg of vicodin every 4 hours according to my bottle. It isn't making the pain go away, but the right side of my body keeps falling asleep. I am not overdosing. I am taking the perscribed amount! I don't know what to do. I can't have the pain, but is it normal for my arm and leg to fall asleep? Please Help! ASAP!

The Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory. If you can get the swelling down, the pain will ease...You can help hurry the swelling reduction time if you apply an ice pack. Only leave it on for about 15 min. an hour. Your antibotics should start working by about tomorrow. Your arms and legs will be fine....take a lil stroll around the house to wake your leg up....and try to do a little something to keep the blood flowing in both your arms and legs.....Hang in there! You'll feel better soon!

This answer may sound simplistic but it comes from first hand experience. The only thing that will cure your pain is going to an oral surgeon and getting the infection removed from your jaw bone. Bone pain is notoriously hard to treat and no amount of drugs or antibiotics will cure bone pain once it is rooted deep in the bone. I'd go camp out at the dentist office until he found time to work on you or go to a different oral surgeon and have the problem fixed even if you have to pay cash or finance the services. If you get the infection out of the bone you will get some relief immediately and almost total relief within 48 hours. good luck

That's pretty intense-- sorry for your misery!
I also get 'falling asleep' limbs when I take painkillers (I have back damage from an accident, which has awful flare-ups, so I have much experience in this) I suspect your circulation slows down, as the rest of your body functions do too. (Watch out for constipation, BTW)
It certainly wouldn't hurt to check it out with your GP, as the former answer suggests. Your pharmacist could probably give you an immediate answer, too, as Dr's offices can be as bad as dentists when it comes to availability. Tell the pharmacist everything you are taking--- not just for this-- if you take any other medications for anything at all.
Also you need to get pretty heavy with this dental office. You now have a full-blown emergency and should be taken care of sooner than April. Report to your insurance company if they do not fit you in.
I feel sorry for receptionists, etc, and try not to be unreasonable in my demands-- but this is important enough to become a "difficult" patient if that is what it takes to get things dealt with.
Good luck!

Than doesn't sound right. Call your dentist for a different prescription, better yet , go to the Emergency room, seems like you have some sort of unwanted side effect.
Good luck.!

Go to the emergency room. There are a few things that could be an issue, but you need a workup by a doctor to sort it out.

Go... now...

You are taking too much ibuprofen for one, its every 6 hrs, and yes, you should go to an ER for x-rays, and blood work. If you ARE truly serious. Infection can spread throughout your bones in your face.
