For the flu, the annual flu immunization build the immune system.

I think colds tend to be stress related... I seemed to catch colds after final exams, or near work deadlines and x-mas holiday. Yes, it's hard shopping with loads of crazy people.... lol. So I think the key is not to get extremely stressed.

If you're just starting a cold, I recommend Cold-Ezee (sp?)... the zinc gluconate lozenges. They seem to help me get over the cold a lot faster.

Plus, Vitamin C and fluids.
Some people recommend echinacea, but it didn't do anything for me.

I've tried Airbourne and found it ineffective for me.

Haven't tried Zicam, but a few coworkers swear by it.

How to lose all your friends including your dog, and at the same time avoid colds and coughs. Eat lots of onions and garlic.
Try microwaving an onion and eating it with bread and butter. Heaven! A clove of garlic in your lamb chops. It's almost as good as Leyton Orient beating Chelsea away!

Echanacia. Its a Herbal tablet that works very well for me. I have not had the flu for years. You only need to take it 2 months in a year.

Stay away from public transport - everyone gets on there with their germs. Try walking more, anyway - more exercise keeps you healthy, & keeps your weight down (a good idea after Christmas!!!). Vitamins & healthy eating is also a good idea.
