I don't know about in England, but a lot of us used to fox hunt here in Ohio. This was back until the late 70's when fur was still worth quite a bit of money. I remember when a gray fox pelt was worth $50.00 and a red was worth $75.00.
We didn't do it on horseback and the dogs didn't "tear the fox to bits" either. The dogs would kick up the fox and keep it running until somebody shot it. The dogs were always far enough behind the fox that after it was shot, the hunter would have the fox in their game bag before the dogs got to where it had been shot. So there were no dogs tearing the fox up as I understand the English version of fox hunting goes.
Very few people actively hunt fox now that fur prices are down. I still hear once or twice a year of somebody that got one while hunting something else, but that's about it.

I've never been on a proper hunt before, I really wish I could've though... I only really shoot the foxes outside the kitchen window when they try and make off with the chickens. We once had two of them attacking our pet sheep who was really old and ill and that, and they attacked her legs and wouldn't leave her alone poor little girl... so I don't like foxes too much!
Why do people bother answering the question when you can see they've never accounted a fox tearing their chickens apart. They don't just hunt for food either they get in some wierd frenzy and kill the lot... I hate the things! Bring back the hunts!

I love all hunting! If we didn't hunt animals, believe me they'd get overpopulated and get diseases. We have to hunt to eat or make money, just to keep the animals healthy. Fox are a nuisance, as they get in your garbage, kill your cats (poor cats!), eat your pets food etc. I am not an animal rights activist by any means. I believe in hunting, fishing etc

With a radio reciever, horses and hounds, or a rifle?
(or at night clubs?)
There's more than one way to hunt a "fox".

I suspect that their are a lot of people who like fox hunting. However it is a cruel and illegal practise and has rightfully been forbidden.
