The formatting changes because of the differences between the original size and the pasted size.
To get around this, not only paste as a picture, but COPY as a picture:
(You may want to re-size your chart to make it slightly bigger or smaller than it is. Sometimes doing this retains your formatting, but play around with the sizes)
In Excel
1. Click on the chart to highlight it.
2. Now hold down shift and click on Edit. Your options are different now - instead of Copy, you now have Copy Picture. Click on this.
A window pops up with some options. For now, I would leave the options as they are.
3. Now try pasting into Word. If you still get the same problem, then try pasting the picture into the same Excel sheet first, then copy/paste that picture into Word.
'Hope that helps.

Try Merging the documents, instead of Copy and Paste, or You can save the chart as a .jpeg in MS Paint, then copy and paste, and choose "Tight" on the grouping bar of the picture bar. Good Luck

Copy and Paste is a basic skill...check Google for the details. More than likely you have forgotten to left click, or drag to highlight just what you want to copy. Cora the Computer has no idea WHAT you want to copy until you make that selection. Then COPY and go to WORD and Paste!
Use your right click or EDIT for these commands.
Good Luck

Yeah, many things blow at Microsoft. Anyway, what version are you using?
Have you tried to insert the Excel graph as an object in Word? (Insert menu, object...). You can create a new one or create from file (existing excel spreadsheet).
