In Massachusetts, that is. I don't know if the rates change across the country. I'd like to know before talking to anyone so that I can tell him that his rates are awful. Thanks!

For the reception only- between $500 and $900 and sometimes a bit more if you need to rent special lighting or other effects.
Hope this helps :D

Well im in southern california and im getting married June 1st. Our DJ is $699 for 5 hours and that includes the lighting for the dance floor. This also comes with a DJ and an MC. Dj does the music when the MC is the one to get the crowd going on the mic. They were djs at my friends wedding and i was really impressed so i asked them for their card and how much. It was just a $100 deposit too. Its called propsproductions. I hope this helped you out.

We paid $300 for a reception in Nebraska. The thing I learned when I was looking for a DJ is that they will negotiate, so check around on the going rate in your area. Also, if you find a DJ who is up and coming Less experience) they are cheaper and they usually bring a pro with them to make sure everything they do is right!

A little trick I did was to scour the yellow pages in my area, gather up all of the emails and made one general email addressed to them all at the same time letting them know:

-date of my wedding
-what types of musice i wanted played
-what i wanted from a dj
- hours needed

I let them know that i was searching for the best possible price, for services provided and if they were interested, to contact me ONLY by email and I would contact those who i wanted to interview later.

Out of the 15 i sent back, 10 responded, 2 were pushy so i gave them the boot and the others i set up appointments with to interview. I had one of the guys throw in an extra hour PLUS included the lights and mc'ing at no extra charge.

The guy i chose in the end was one that was very polite, and gave me the best rate in the end. For 6 hours i am paying $550, but it is with everything included... plus he is covering my wedding at no extra charge since it is being held in the same location.

We paid about $1500 in San Francisco, California for eight hours and two sound systems (one inside, one outside) - which I would expect to be among the priciest.

Best way to get him to come down is to talk to a few other DJs... let each know you're talking to multiple vendors so they shoot straight with you. Good luck!

It truly relies upon on how lengthy you want them, even if you wish a million dj or a crew of two, etc. yet maximum important, regardless of you do make confident they play "Cotton Eyed Joe" by technique of RedNexx.

I suggest visiting online website such as

http://www.weddinglenox.com ,weddingvendors.com ,onewed.com

Unlike most yellow pages, they have detailed comparison for vendors (DJ,videographer, florist, and photographer) you can choose.

One problem I had with my wedding is that it is hard to locate vendors in most website as most likely they group by states and there are too many of them that are too far from me and I have to look at each site to figure out.

I like weddinglenox as they have a easy to use layout to show you pictures, pricing and location in one page, plus you can send out your inquiry for matching vendor to contact you. That saves me lots of time to locate the best vendors with the right price.
