Most of the wood trim in my early 20th centruy home is stained a dark wood. I purchased the house with all new white windows recently added. As nice as the new windows are for energy bills, with the shades or drapes drawn it looks horrible - the white against the dark wood. I like the wood, but see no other possibilities. Am I making a bigger deal out of it than I should or should I definitely paint the wood white to match? Thanks.

I love the look of wood BUT nice wood trim, which it sounds like you have, is equally as beautiful painted. Many people gasp at painting wood. It's only paint!! True, it may be a chore (probably for someone else!) but it can be removed.
A nicely painted vintage room with white (or off white) trim can be exquisite, and frankly is one of my favorite styles.
I think it sounds like you'd be happiest painting the wood. It could be a challenge to paint the windows to somehow match the wood.
I think you know what will look best.
Good Luck.

I also own an older home. The choice is a difficult one. I just painted my bedroom and after much thought chose to paint over the trim in this room white, it does look nicer.

Is it possible to paint the white windows a different colour? I would research this before making a decision. Once the paint is on the trim - murder to remove it.

I would say to paint the windows NOT the trim - if you ever sell the house = the old stained wood is a plus

Depends on how nice the wood is. It is usually a shame to paint over good quality wood finishes. Maybe you should get wood shades (or even shutters) that would help minimize the white.

I am a huge fan of exposed wood and would caution against painting it. Maybe try a diffrent shade of drapes that would blend better.

Are you willing to paint all the wood in your home,if you paint the windows then its not going to match the baseboards which won't match the door frames. I say live with it .

instead of painting them, stain them another color.
