Atheists get asked this all the time and I just don't understand why. Is the reason a Christian wants to live so different than why an atheist would? And BC Munkee makes a good point: why do Christians want to live when Heaven is just on the other side of death?

Discuss.

jesus preached "The Kingdom of God is at hand". Contrary to popular belief the bible does not teach that when you die you live in some other place called heaven forever. The bible teaches that men will live on earth forever when Christ returns. Thus what we do on earth now is all part of the same continuum. God is with men NOW (this was the purpose of the coming of Christ). For the atheist I don't know. He/she gropes around within a meaningless existence searching for something that makes him feel good and when the last thing that made him/her feel good wears off, he/she looks for something else to make them feel good. life has no larger purpose, And he does this untill he/she dies.

I live because I feel that God has me here for a reason and I want to know what that reason is. Just because heaven is waiting for me doesn't mean I'm in a hurry to die. To kill myself would be a sin and I wouldn't see heaven that way.

We have work to do and we are expected to do it. Death is the easy way out.

God made the world, we are supposed to enjoy life and not death.

Besides, what person in their right mind would want to die? We don't naturally want to die (unless you're depressed.) As a whole, we want to live forever.

I want to live because God gave me a life to live.

A lot of them don't-secretly they hanker after their illusory afterlife paradise. If heaven exists it would be perverse indeed if such morally degenerate and feckless people are allowed to experience it.

They want to live so they can share God to others who don't believe. They want to try to save them from hell. It is what Christians live for.
