The ribs hurt the worst out of all of my tattoos. The back wasn't too bad though.
I don't know about the hip though, the shoulder really doesn't hurt. Your muscle can be sore for a while just from being pushed on, but it doesn't hurt.

The pain definitely differs... but it also depends on the individual. I have two on my back and one on my stomach. The worst part was the one on my stomach when the needle was on or close to the hip bone, but overall it wasn't bad at all! The one on my lower back, however, was much worse. Everyone will tell you something different, so it really just depends. One of my friends got one on her shoulder and practically fell asleep during it. Stay away from the ribs! I heard those are the absolute worst!

Yes, shoulders hurt less than say an ankle. I had one on my hip and it wasn't bad. My sister got her shoulder done and said it was easy. Also the more intricate the design, the longer it takes, of course. I was "under the needle" just over an hour, only 2 really intricate spots hurt some. It healed quickly though and I don't regret getting one, in fact, they can become quite addicting!

The more bony areas hurt more, such as the ankle and your hip would hurt like anything. I would say your shoulder would hurt a bit as well but not as much as the hip
