I agree with everyone's answers here...

...but I cannot believe NO ONE included the 1st Diego Corrales vs Jose Luis Castillo?? Not only was it back-n-forth action that resembled the Pryor/Arguello fight, but it ended with a bang and a bit of controversy.

As you have asked for the greatest fight of all time, i would have to say that Ali Vs Foreman, the Rumble in the Jungle fits the bill for that actual accolade, mainly because of the achievements made by Ali to beat the unbeatable Big George.
If you were however asking for the best fight (from a fans or viewers point of view) i would say Hagler Vs Hearns is that fight closely followed by Barrera Vs Morales 1. Ali Vs Frazier 1, Corrales Vs Castillo 1 and Gatti Vs Ward 1.

I'd say Ali v Frazier 3, the thrilla in manila. Both men fought in intense heat for 14 rounds of non stop fighting. Frazier's eyes were closed, Ali was almost out through exhaustion. At the end of round 14 Frazier's corner stopped the fight to save him from any more punishment. It is rumoured that Ali was about to quit at that point also. It was one of the most brutal fights in boxing history and both men were never the same again. Ali said after the fight that the experience was the closest thing to dying that he has ever felt.

I would have to say Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Marvin Hagler..

I think Hagler won the battle though. Hagler wanted 15 rounds but agreed to 12 to get the right fight purse. If it would of went 15 rounds like Hagler wanted, there would have been a much different outcome.

I must agree with my friend Dr. Jekell. THE RUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE.

George Foreman was heavily favored after his total destruction of every fighter in the division at the time. The aging Ali was written off as a has been. The ingenius stategy to exploit Foreman's untested stamina was a gutsy move by Ali now known as "The Rope A Dope". Ali was willing to take enormous punishment by design to exhaust Foreman and make him arm weary which led to a knockout of the then Champion Foreman.

Sugar Ray Leonard/Thomas Hearns 1

Ring Magazine recently rated Marvin Hagler vs.Thomas Hearns as the greatest fight of all time, and the first round of that fight as the greatest round of all time.
I agree.
It was a three round symphony of violence, initiated by Hagler to keep Hearns backing up and nullify his reach and power. It worked.
I remember watching that fight live on TV in South Africa at 6 in the morning (the time difference), and my hair standing up on the back of my neck.

The rumble in the jungle.
Ali v Foreman, from Zaire.
Ali lets Foreman, (meant to be invinsible), tire himself out for 8 rounds. He uses "rope a dope". Laying back on the ropes, pulling Foreman onto him, covering up his best shots. He takes the mickey out of him, until with fast hands, he springs into action and knocks him down with a flurry of punches.
Possibly only Ali would have adopted those tactics. He won the title back for a third time, which nobody had done before.
