Espicially women? If they believe this makes them a better part of society than they were 25 years ago they are wrong. It just brings them down into the gutter with the men who do not have the intelligence of knowing how to talk. Why would you want to bring yourself down to that level ladies?

I have to admit sometimes when you hang around people that swear all the time you to pick it up and it becomes part of your laungage.

I was told by a close friend, dont go down to that level, your far above that, your a lady so act like one.
I was 21 at the time hanging out with my friends, wanting to fit in a little better, but they had already thought highly of me..
It put a smile on my face to hear that.
And i tried hard to keep my swearing down.

We all try and fit into the social group or work group, be it male or female. Its trying to remember not to swear when you hear it around you ALL the time, to not pick that up.

I personally don't swear. The only time I did was when I was bit by a yellow jacket and that was more of a scream than anything. There are plenty of real words that can express feeling!

Some people swear because the people around them swear. People talk like their peers, whether they hear this language when they are young or in adult life, that is how they talk. If the language they hear is full of asterisks, that is how they will communicate. Of course, if people decided not to talk that way the wouldn't, but whatever.

Also, some people have low self esteem, for some reason they think swearing makes them big and important.

Whatever their reasoning is, I prefer the King's English.

Personally, when I hear people swear, it causes me to think they are stupid and uneducated, not to mention cheep.

Crude and inappropriate speech has become part of our everyday conversation. Women who swear sound even worse than the men (and I plead guilty to having done so too often). I am seriously trying to speak as becoming to a mother and grandmother, not a drunken sailor. I would like to see a serious attempt by ALL citizens to take the vulgar, profane language out of our mouths and into the garbage where it belongs.

Swearing has become a normal part of every day conversation because it's easy. One of the first things international students love to learn when they come to the US is absorbing a dialect of swear words to replace words they may not know. This is frequently the case in the US. "****" replaces nouns for instance.

Women I believe swear beacuse I think it makes them feel tough and less feminine. Maybe it helps them fit in more with the guys.

I can see tossing out an f-bomb if upset or something. However, if in everyday, normal conversation its either poor up-bringing or the person may have some aggression issues that require therapy. I don't mean to sound old but I was raised in the early 70's and man... if I spoke the way kids do today or acted towards adults... even adults they don't know, the way kids do today my Dad would of put me thru a wall (back then it was normal to punish kids with a spanking, etc... we didn't have this non-effective time out stuff...lol)

I don't swear. And you wouldn't believe the funny looks and stuff I get when people realise this. There's a girl at work who will see me frustrated and be like "just cuss, it releaves tension!". I can tolerate hearing cussing (although I have a particular hated of the "F" word), but I think it's unladylike, vulgar, and makes one sound highly uneducated. There are much nicer explatives such as darn, drats, yikes, etc. Or, you can skip the explatives and merely vocalize your thoughts with a higher level vocabulary!

peopel talk like they do, because they are accustomed to it. yea chicks swear. in some settings it's not pretty, but others it's ok. i swear all the time. my answer was removed for saying the Letter F, not the word, the letter. anyways, i am taking a college English class in less than a week, im nervous, so that i can expand my vocabulary. because by far, if someone is gonna cuss you out, and they get that accomplished without swearing, wow, that's awesome..

I swear when having casual conversations as often as I feel the need to do so. I don't consider myself to be down in the gutter, especially since every other word is not a curse word. If you don't appreciate swearing, simply leave the conversation or ignore it and be glad it's not you.

Under certain circumstances, profanity provides a relief denied even to prayer.
- Mark Twain

I read once it that when it becomes socially unacceptable to weep, it is subsituted by swearing. Little boys are told to "be a man" and little girls are told that crying is for "weak females." Swearing is shocking, sure, but a good deal less embarrassment to their elders than crying in public. Swearing, they learn from their elders. Denied tears, a hearty F-bomb delivers the point.

they swear because they don't want to seem weak! Also, the movies we see in this day and time have many curse words in them ..Back in the day, movies never had swearing in them. America follows the movies. We do and say what we see on the big screen. That is if we think it's cool.
