Im trying to find a cheap option to get to Hereford. The rail prices are more expensive than flying to Norway or even Wroclaw in Poland!
I need to go visit my girlfriend down there and haven't a scooby how to get there within a reasonable price. I think driving seems to be the easiest so far! Only 5 hours of constant road though! Do-able, but Im too lazy to look forward to the prospect of returning. And I'll probably just stay and get a job.lol

Bus is probably the cheapest, look at fun fares. Go on the National Coaches website. Trains can be very cheap if you book early, and consider buying a student card if you are the right age.also check if it is cheaper to buy to single tickets also check and see if it is cheaper to buy a ticket Hereford/ Birmingham and one Birmingham /Edinburgh and visa versa. Also look at flying from Edinburgh to Birmingham and then getting the train. If you do decide to drive the M6 is terrible especially on Fridays. It is best to avoid Birmingham and Spaghetti Junction by going via Shrewsbury. If you don't do that keep a very close ear on the traffic news.

Have you checked Trainline? There are cheaper Apex tickets if you can book a little in advance. You might also look for cheap flights from Edinburgh or Glasgow to Gloucestershire Airport or, a bit further away, Bristol, Birmingham or Cardiff. The other option is to arrange to meet her in London or somewhere convenient to both of you!
