i suggest contacting the state you will be arriving/living in,,,, or the American Embassy,,,,,if you are traveling to different states,,,, i believe most states require you to present your visa and receive a permit,,,,, do not buy a permit from anyone except the DMV,,, as there are alot of spams/frauds out there,,,,, promising to sell you an international license,,, but they are not real, official

You should apply for an international driver's license before leaving. Check with your travel agent. (In the US they are available through the Automobile Club)

No, the license is not transferrable. However you can get a temporary foreign visitor license. I don't remeber what it is called though. Contact motor vehicle service or immigration.

no, you need a US drivers' license, especially from the state you will be staying in.
