i think it's because the consequences aren't as high as they used to be. there used to be big social consequences if you
had sex or got pregnant (forced marriage, loss of social status etc, getting kicked out by your parents) but the fear isn't there
because the consequences are less now.

children are maturing faster(physically) than they use to, but I think the problem is society. Most parents don't monitor what their kids watch on t.v. and a lot of t.v promotes sex. I still young(19) and I don't have kids, but I group up watching family oriented shows that taught me what can happen if you have sex so young. I didn't want that kind of life so I chose against having sex so young. If kids are that young having sex then it must be the parents fault. I mean how and where is a 11-12 going to have sex without the parents knowing. Parents need to get more involved in their kids life while their growing up. Once they turn 17-18 you can't really control them anymore, but they'll always remember the lessons you taught them. I do at least. It could be neglect too because they may want the attention. but that still makes it the parent's fault. and the old peer pressure aspect is a good reason too, because nowadays that's all kids talk about and you don't want to feel left out.

Its Total Neglect!!!!
It Drives Me Crazy!!!
Parents Will Let These Children Watch Inappropriate Television, Sex, Violence, Drugs. And Never Speak To Them About It. Personally I Think Mtv Should Be Blocked By Parents For Any Child Until The Age Of 16!!! What Kids See They Emulate.....And When You Dont Explain To Them The Negatives Of What They Are Seeing You End Up Having A Child Getting Pregnant. Then The Parents Dont Explain The Benefits Of Adoption. As A Society I Think We All Have Our Priorities Completely Backwards. Children Need Responsible, Attentive Parents...And For The Most Part.....They Just Dont Exist Anymore!!!

Maturation is not going any faster. It's the parents' fault (which is the case most of the time in today's society) and the media's. These kids are watching MTV and shows that are for older teens. They're watching shows like Laguna Beach and see these older and extremely popular teens (juniors and seniors in high school) making out and "hooking up". The younger teens and preteens see this and want to fit in so they go out and do what they've seen on TV. When parents find out, they usually don't do anything nowadays. They don't explain the consequences to their own children whose very lives may be in danger. People just don't care anymore.

I agree with you. Children are starting to do a lot of things way too young, including having sex and drinking. In my opinion, the parents are to blame the majority of the time. If parents were more active in their childrens' lives they would not be going out and doing the things they do. Children need guidance and a lot of the time parents don't offer enough guidance.
To answer your question about whether or not they are maturing faster I would say that this is definitely not the reason. If these kids were maturing faster they would decide to hold off on having sex. 11 and 12 year olds have no business having sex and if the trend is going to change parents are going to have to be more involved.
With that said, people need to spend time thinking about parenthood before they decide to have children. The job of a parent is the most important job there is and some people don't realize that.

I completely agree with you. I was floored when I was that age and there were other girls as young as me and having babies. I don't believe it has anything to do with being mature, after all when having sex you are introduced to many adult situations that no kid can handle alone. Pre teens aren't even old enough to get a job so why do they think they can have babies. Back to my theory, when I was younger there wasn't much to do so a lot of kids starting drinking and smoking, and having sex. So in a large way there isn't a positive outlet for these children which is probably why there is so much pressure to do these things at a very young age.

Yes it is the parent`s fault, they may had sex in the same room thinking that their kids are younger to understand. Also they allow their kids to watch with them the porn television. They must know that their kids are very intelligent and they can understand every thing .

Lack of concern and society does not condem it.
Right wrong or indifferent, I went to a Catholic School and if a girl got pregnant, she was kicked out of school. If it was confirmed that it was by a guy in the school, he was kicked out too.
There are no consequences. Abortion is too easy a way out and parents don't even have to know it happens in some States.
