I was wondering if I added myself to the car title, I should have no problem getting insurance in my own name, since I will be 25 this year?.

YOU CAN'T add your name to the car title. Whoever's name can't get the "title" until the entire loan is paid off. The person who signed the papers to the loan will remain & is considered the "Registered Owner" of the vehicle. Even though you are driving the car, technically that car is NOT YOUR'S because you are not the Registered Owner, your name may be on the insurance (which only covers you in case of an accident) but as far as the ownership, NO you do not have any power over it. Legally, whoever's name is under can have it towed or returned to them. They can even call the police on you to get it back. It's true. So, if you moved out your parents house, I suggest you talk to them about this situation, if they will allow you to keep the car even though you don't live with them any more. If you want a car under your own name, then i suggest you BUY A NEW ONE by yourself, signing the papers to your loan by yourself. That is, IF you get approved.

GOOD LUCK!

Unless you pay off the loan and transfer the title, you won't be able to get insurance in your name.

However, you may not need to. Call your agent and tell him/her what you would like to do. He should to be able to issue the titleholder (your parents?) insurance, with you as an added driver. He will also need to know the address at which the car will actually be kept. You can make the payments for the insurance so that your parents do not have to. This would likely be the simplest solution. I hope this helps.

If your credit is good enough, get a new loan in your name to pay off the old one. That is one way to get it cleared up.

You should be able to get insurance, but your parents don't want to carry you any longer? You could leave it with them
