Israel rejected Jesus as the Messiah; therefore, the promises to Abraham fell to the gentiles. We Christians are heirs to the promises of God through the blood of Jesus; therefore, we are Jews by proxy. God has intended this for the good of Israel, that Israel be preserved through the actions of the gentile nations that accept Jesus as the Messiah. Christians have not replaced the Jews, but have edified them, that is Christians have built them up.
