If an on-fire christian, a die-hard believer has a massive head injury that causes him/her to have a radical change of personality (which has been known to happen sometimes) and they no longer believe and become an atheist. Where would said hypothetical person go when they die, in your opinion. As many of you know, I am an atheist and think we all just rot. But I'm interested in what opinions are. Please elaborate, I will not persecute you this time, I promise.

I saw on the news a story about a woman who had a stroke and started speaking french, even though she had never learned French, and she couldn't speak English at all. Her husband had no clue what she was talking about. Your hypothetical is not too far fetched.

Your question hits very close to home for me. My mom was a very dedicated Christian and had a brain anyerism (have no idea how to spell that!) about 15 years ago that radically changed her personality.

She lost a lot of her short term memory and to this day has trouble remembering a conversation that took place 30 minutes ago.

She was very active in her church, and had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. She always smiled and had a very bubbly personality. After the stroke, she was (is) very guarded, isn't very social and has changed dramatically. She isn't an atheist (sorry, it doesn't answer your question exactly) but will have nothing to do with a church congregation and has withdrawn from all her friends.

There are so many aspects to this story that I'm not sure where to start. I am a Christian to this day, as I believe my mom is. Did God give her the anyeurism? No, I don't believe so. We live in a fallen, sin stained world where God's perfection has been smashed into a zillion pieces. Will my mom be with Christ when she dies, even though she doesn't really pray or go to church or do what "Christians" do? I believe so. Jesus said that He would never leave us nor forsake us and Paul wrote that nothing can separate us from the love of God. God is perfectly just and perfectly merciful, so I rely on the fact of His character and what He has shown us in His word, the Bible.

Again, it is hard to boil this down to a single conversation, but it is a good start.

Well I do think that one dies they are just dead. Gen.3:19: Ezek.18:4: Eccl. 9:6: Isa.26:14 As God told Adam and eve they would die.(Satan was the one that said she wouldn't die.) Not that they would live on in some other way. I think this is true for every one. I do how ever believe that there will be a resurrection John 5:28,29 of righteous and the unrighteous. Acts 24:15

If a person has ever truly believe and trusted that the Lord Jesus Christ died for their sins, The Holy Spirit baptizes them into the body of Christ. 1 Corinthians 12: 13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. The Holy Spirit seals that person unto the day of redemption. Ephesians 4: 30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. The Holy Spirit does a operation on that person without hands. Colossians 2: 11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: The Lord Jesus Christ can never reject himself Philippians 1: 6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: If the person was at one time a believer the works of God will stand forever. Salvation is not based on what we do but what He did for us.

Well, 1st off, if that injury caused that, then they are brain damaged and can no longer be held accountable for their sins.
But , if it is as you say that the injury has healed and afterwards the individule no longer believes, then consider this verse, that says that an individule like that was never really saved to begin with, this kinda relates to a centuries old debate involving what is known as OSAS or 'Once Saved Always Saved'
But anyway, here is that verse.
1Jo 2:19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would [no doubt] have continued with us: but [they went out], that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

That's a pretty good question.

I guess what you are referring to is the once saved always saved doctrine.

1 Corinthians 3:11-15

11 For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if any man builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each man's work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man's work. 14 If any man's work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward. 15 If any man's work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.

Well, chrisitians are divided into two camps on this issue.

Some will say hell others will say heaven.

Depends if you believe the doctrine of eternal security or not.

A believer in the Bible believes that once you have accepted God's grace extended thru Jesus, then nothing can separate you from God's love (paraphrase of Romans 8). Therefore, the hypothetical person upon physical death enters heaven to spiritually live on.

God does not hold us responsible if we are not of sound mind. That's why children and the mentally challenged get a free pass. Your hypothetical person has made his choice, and no physical damage can change that.

I actually find Irreverend's answer much more interesting. Accepting God AS A MENTAL ABERRATION?

That'd suck. You die and find out that your acceptance of God doesn't count because your brain was not qualified to choose anymore? I'd be pissed.

This personality change would occur because of demonic possession.
The soul of the individual would have already been saved as he had given himself to Jesus.
We read in the bible about Jesus casting out demons into swine.
The patent was supposed to be an epileptic, but God has shown us that mental illness is really demonic possession.
I think this is true in Islam where Muslims recognize that the mentally ill are not responsible for their actions.
PS, atheists do not persecute people of faith, we defend their right to have a faith, they persecute us for not acknowledging their faith.

Well, if their mind is still working after they have the injury and can still think and reason and become atheists and don't believe in God, then they will go to hell. But if their brain is messed up and they really can't think very well, I think that God would understand and take them to heaven. Only God knows their hearts.
