I think first of all you need to determine what god you believe in. Then you can find a group of people who believe in the same god and spend time with them. Not all gods are the same and if you get in with some who believe in different gods than you, you would not enjoy it at all. For example the Bahai' faith believe all religions are right and that might be a good group for you, but my experience with them is that they believe all religions are right except those who don't believe all religions are right (Christians) and then you are wrong. So do they really believe all religions are right. Have a great time seeking for such a group.

It's not at all abnormal to believe in and love God, but not to have any use or need for organized religion. They are, after all, two completely different things. The Church tells you that you can't reach God without them, but that's just not true. While many, many people feel safe and happy in a church setting, it simply isn't for everyone. And I don't believe for a second that God can't hear us unless we're in a building with pretty stained-glass windows and expensive candle holders. :)

There are lots of non denominational Churches out there. But keep in mind that when you don't subscribe to a particular religion, the idea of "God" is somewhat different for everyone. Which can be great. There are also Taoist and Buddhist temples, where you easily can go and feel the spirit, but there is no preaching or sermons. These temples are open to everyone, and they don't expect you to be of their religion to enjoy the feeling of peace and tranquility that their temples provide.

But don't forget the biggest, most gorgeous Church of them all - nature. Any place that is particularly beautiful or calming is someplace where you can easily feel God around you. You can always put an ad on Craig's list or Yahoo and have people meet you out in a park to just talk and share ideas. Sounds heavenly to me. :)

Good luck.

How can you believe in God but no religion? If two shall come together and talk and agree that is a form of religion. You want to believe but you want to do it your way and not Gods way. The Lord said to fellowship with other Christians so you may stay strong and not fail when Satan calls.

The Unitarian Universalist church is a good place to start. My church is a gathering place of people not bound by dogma or creed and dedicated to the pursuit of an authentic spiritual journey. We have a lot of atheists, agnostics, buddhists, taoists, christians, and other formerly religious people. I've met a lot of really smart, well educated people there.

There is a way and it is painless. The missionaries will come right to you if you invite them.

You should meet some imaginary people, and get an imaginary group started. Don't be shy. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
