if the koran preaches peace then why did Mohammad (peace be apon him) send ARMIES to spread the word of islam

He did not send the armies to spread the word or Islam. The armies were sent for political reasons! Like any other leader of a nation he wanted to expand it. Therefore there were a lot of invasions...
See, there were verses in the Quran that was about fighting others, but each had a reason. Mainly it is to fight who fight us back.
Islam spread in the new areas by establishing the law, people were not forced to believe in Islam. There were specified ethics for such invasions such as, armies can not burn houses, plants and animals. Can't hurt people specially women,children and elders...
and of course before each invasion Muslims must notify who they are invading for them to be ready.

Muhammed(PBUH*) did NOT spread Islam with a sword. Are you refering to when ALLAH told Muahmmed(PBUH*) to take his people into Mecca and fight for it? If so that was because when Muhammed(PBUH*) tried converting the pagans to Islam in Arabia they reacted violently. They called Muahmmed(PBUH*) a servant of the devil and didn't listen to him. They rounded up as many followers of his as they could and whipped them and stretched them to death. Muahmmed(PBUH*) and his followers had no choice but to flee to Medina where the King took them in and during the time they were in Mendina Muhammed(PBUH*) gathered more followers. They stayed in Medina until the Prophet(PBUH*) was told by ALLAH or an angel(not sure which) to go back to Makkah and make it a holy city and to rebuild the Kabba that Ibrahim(PBUH*) had tried building before. So they went back and had a war because the pagans still were worshipping idols and didn't want Muahmmed(PBUH*) and his followers to change their ways and enforce Islam. But masha' ALLAH Muhammed(PBUH*) and his followers succeeded with ALLAH'S help and took Makkah. And Muhammed(PBUH*) built the Kabba and made Makka and Medina holy cities and taught the pagans to give up their false Gods and worship ALLAH in Islam.

Islam is peaceful to those who give peace to it. God forbid fighting under these conditions:
jihad is a way of defence and it means struggle with own self to do good. muslims were tortured and killed by the pagans, anyone convert to Islam is being killed or tortured, so God command Muhammad to fight those who are unjustice from among the pagans. But God forbid fighting those people indicate in the verses below:
1. Except those who join a group, between you and whom there is a treaty (of peace).
2. those who approach you with their breasts restraining from fighting you as well as fighting their own people.
3. Allâh does not forbid you to deal justly and kindly with those who fought not against you on account of religion and did not drive you out of your homes.

dude ur parents tought u that .tell me how.except ottoman empire done that in the name of islam that's all. they attacked east europe.by the way muslim didnot invate spain they conquer it peacefully jews and christians were free absolutely thats end of the story dude dont listen ur parents ur idiology.ottoman empire knows as turk converted to islam with no such a prussure. and egypt alexandar the great im not sure but king of egypt converted to islam with no pressure on them only by words then asia and centarl asia and sout asia and east africa and east coast africa they did not use compiltion baby if they did no one would left on the earth.have u forgot to tell ur kids that christians invaded every single country. have u forgot they destroyed aoubirgion origin in australia /destroyed hisspanic civilations in amerivan contenat and red indians and eskimos and siberians and black african.have forgot that invaded all muslim contries but they failed in islamic countries.why no one mention about that. its so quiet ohlaalaa

He did not send ARMIES, the prophet sent messengers to ask them to join Islam. If they did not want to, he never forced them. Please get your facts straight and don't assume that what you think is right. Don't believe everything you hear or read. Please get past the ignorance and the stereotyping. Go ask any muslim and he or she will tell you the same answer.

Yes Quran teaches peace.......Well those wars were for their defence, Muslims were under attack of pagan Arabs those days who were angry with muhammd and Muslims becasue of islam, and those armies they had were for their defence , not for spreading islam,
There is no compulsion in islam !!!

when profit mohamed sent out armies it was to defend his new religion coz he was threatened ...if u read about islam ...its not what u see these days ..it was never a terrorist religon.

Good point. If medieval Christians were still alive they would explain how they used the bible to justify the crusades.
