I think a mom's intuition counts for something, and never like to hear about "experts" telling a mother to ignore her instincts. I like the first answer's suggestion to try a Children's hospital.

When you say "small of back" do you mean where his waist is, or below his waist? If so, a significant outward curve at that point would be problematic as he gets older. If you mean an outward curve above the waistline, that would be normal.

If you want to encourage some back strength (which must be done very gently in a small child) and have a little fun, too, buy one of those exercise balls (get the smallest size.) Encourage your son to lay back over the ball, and then you can roll it from side to side SLIGHTLY (2-3 inches back and forth.) His feet should be off the floor. You'll have to hold him onto the ball, but you'll feel his muscles working a little as you move the ball. He might be a little nervous the first few times because humans don't like to move backwards onto something, but if you take it slow and don't push him, he'll probably look forward to his playtime on the ball. Enjoy!

Well if there are no physical problems or birth defects, then it's not too much of a problem. The moment you see a negative sign you should definatly go back to the doctor. If it's not broke don't fix it.

I would contact your local Children's Hospital. Not all regular doctors know how to diagnose and treat children. Call your insurance company and tell them what is going on and let them know that your doctor refuses to give you a referal.

Umm.... why are you asking us?

Three doctors all agree that it's nothing. Why are you still worried?

The next doc should probably be a psychiatrist.
