You are so right about the importance of reading the bible your self. Many people have been ;ed astray by following the teachings of a MAN and not the WORD OF GOD. We are responsible for what we do and we are also responsible for what we could have known but chose not to take the time to learn. To he whom much is given so shall much be required. On the divorce issue. Divorce was forbidden by God under any circumstance except adultery on the part of the female partner. Men in the bible days were allowed to have many wives but woman were required to have only one husband. Divorce was available for adultery and was an option for the husband as an alternative to public stoning which left him a widower and therefor able to remarry anyway. We no longer live under the laws of Moses or of organizes religions. We now live under grace all sins are considered equal and all sins are forgiven except the sin of unbelief, (the unpardonable sin), the price has been paid 2000 years ago with the blood of Jesus, we just have to confess our sins and HE is faithful and just to forgive our sins.

Read Genesis 3:1-24, and that will tell you about Adam and Eve and what happened to them after their life in the Garden of Eden. I didn't see your other question, but adultery is the only reason for a divorce; ANYTHING else can be worked on and overcome.
I agree with you, most people think they know the Bible and what it says; if the Bible was full of everything that everybody thinks is in there, do you have any idea how big the book would be?? No one would be able to carry it around!
The Bible is full of instructions on how to get to heaven and what to avoid so we can get there in one piece. If you really want to know, you can IM me, and we can talk.

Wow, well I read the Bible but I think you should check this out.
Genesis 3:6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and HE ATE IT.
Also the Bible never tells us what type of fruit it was.
Matthew 5:32 But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, EXCEPT FOR SEXUAL IMMORALITY, causes her to become an adulteress, and anyone who marries the divorced woman commits adultery.

The Bible says nothing about spousal abuse and divorce. Jesus said that the only cause for divorce is fornication, and this applies to the women who presents herself to the bridegroom as being a virgin, but ion the wedding night the groom discovers that she lied about her virginity. Fornication is not adultery. fornication is sex outside of marriage. Adultery is cheating on a spouse under the cover of marriage. Adultery is to be forgiven, not to be used as an excuse to put someone out. Fornication can be forgiven. Any act of sexual immorality can be forgiven. Spousal abuse can be forgive. People are too quick today to look for excuses to file for a divorce and not very ready to look for reasons to keep a marriage intact. The whole marriage and divorce system in this country is completely bankrupt.

I've read the Bible many, many times. I've also received intensive instruction from a Messianic Jewish scholar, who's published several books on Scripture. I write this because I have to point out that you are incorrect.
Jesus is quoted at Matthew 5:32 as saying: "But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except sexual immorality causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery."
He's then quoted at Matthew 19:9: "And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery"
In fact, all three synoptic Gospels record Jesus stating that divorce is only permitted if adultery has taken place. You may notice Jesus only mentions men divorcing women; however, Mark 10:12, which was written for a gentile audience, also quotes Jesus as stating wives may divorce their husbands due to adultery.
This is not to say that a wife who's being beaten should stay with her husband; she can leave, but they should try to reconcile. It IS possible for a man to correct his behavior, although it's very difficult.
And, for the record, Adam DID eat the fruit (Scripture doesn't tell us what type it was). Genesis 3:7 reads: "So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate."
Before you criticize other Christians for stating their beliefs, perhaps you should also search the Scriptures.
EDIT: I agree with most of Preacher's comments; however, the word Jesus used is the Greek equivalent of "porneia," which means "illicit sexual intercourse." Porneia can occur prior to, or during, marriage. Therefore, intercourse prior to marriage is porneia; intercourse during marriage with someone who's not your spouse is porneia, also.

There is a difference between reading the Bible and understanding the Bible. Anyone can read the Bible from cover to cover but you need to ask the Lord to show you guidance and understanding so you may understand what it is saying.

I read the bible. It helps with the problems or pressures in life. The bible is like a study guide. You study the bible so that when someone asks you who is God, or they have questions, you are prepared to answer.

a man is suppose to love his wife as he loves himself. he is not suppose to harm his wife, also the wife is not suppose to harm her husband. I don't know how a man or a woman can hit someone that they are suppose to love and they married. as far as Eve eating an apple, it does not say in the bible what kind of fruit she ate. we as Jehovah Witnesses read the bible everday.
