Believe it or not now they are saying that cows passing gas is a major cause. Source: http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=17594701&BRD=1697&PAG=461&dept_id=44551&rfi=6
To me it shows the lack of facts backing global warming. So here are some facts...

The temperature of the earth has increased less than 7/10 of 1 degree (C) from 1880 to 2005. That is an increase of about 1 degree (F) in 125 years. You may choose to believe that is global warming or you may not. Source: http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/2005/2005cal_fig1.gif There are numerous charts all over the internet showing the same. Some say that 1 degree is enough to impact the global climate, others say it's not. Most proponents of global warming think the earth's temperature has risen much more than that and don't even know that it has only risen by 1 degree. But the charts do not lie as do the proponents on both sides of this issue. The average temperature in the Antarctica is 109 degrees below zero. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antarctica#Climate It seems to me 108 below (one degree warmer) is still pretty cold and not enough to melt anything. But there are those that say it will.

Back in the '70s all the hype was about global COOLING and another ice age was coming. I remember that they blamed pollution for that too. They said that all the pollution was darkening the skies and not as much sun was coming through so the earth was cooling off. It took many years to discover that they were mistaken and it was all just hype. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_cooling So when someone says, "the sky is falling" don't believe everything you hear on either side of the issue. There are Spin Doctors galore out there.

Most of the time people will form an opinion and not really be informed about the subject with which they become so opinionated about. So it's best that you not form your opinions from other's opinions, (as in this forum) but on the facts presented. (Many do not provide any proof or links to prove their point, just their opinion.) With that said we do have a responsibility to do our part by doing whatever is within your power to keep our planet alive and well.

I hope that helps...

No body knows the causes or the actual effects. The earth is not a closed system. Radiation from the sun is not constant and there is plenty of evidence that most of the measured global warming is due to increases in solar radiation. Evidence of this is the receding polar caps on Mars.

Above that there are also nuclear reactions within the earths molten core, no doubt there are variations in the amount of heat released from these reactions to the earths surface.

As for effects, one effect that is well know is that the warmer atomosphere will contain more water vapor which will in turn increase the cloud cover which will reduce the amount of solar radiation reaching the surface. A factor which is not included in the doomsday polar ice cap melting climate predicting models.

Bottomline is there are too many variables to accurately determine the cause or effect. When they can tell me for sure its going to rain next Wednesday I'll start worrying about their 100 year projections.

Carbon Dioxide that has been locked away in plants, which some rotted and fermented in the soil, only to be covered by others. Over many millions of years they form Oil, Coal, etc. When we burn these we are now releasing those high concentrated hydrocarbons back into the atmosphere. Carbon Dioxide has the property of locking in the heat, so we are heating up the planet every time we use any energy source that releases carbon dioxide. This is every source of energy we know except for renewable energy. Turn on the TV or Computer, drive the car, turn on the AC or the Heat, even ring the doorbell adds to the problem.
To think most of this technology and the energy required only came into existance since the 1950's so it only took that long to bring us to where we are, the irreversable point. Prior to that there was very little electric in use, fewer cars on the roads, so most of what was released was from heat sources. So what nature locked away for millions of years we managed to undo in only 50+ years.
Also, keep in mind, the planet Venus is a prime example of Global Warming Gone Wild, could this be a glimpse into our future?

The cause of global warming? It's it such a shame there are not a lot of people who do appreciate global warming. I really would not say there is a cause, but the effect could be tremendous. Riding the bus, or bike would help reduce some air pollution.

Nobody knows despite what the alarmist and advocates says
here are facts put simply
Global warming happen before ----Yes
Global cooling---Yes
How often--- too many times over billions of years to calculate
Will it happen again in the future---Definitely
Why are we being blame this time but not previous times---go figure

all the chemicals and man made whatnots cause holes in the ozone, so all the harmfullrays from the sun get through. These rays melt the icebergs which would normally reflect the rays back into space, but instead we have less icebergs more chemicals and less ozone. were all gonna die if this keeps up
