I have a daughter with special needs that has had chronic ear infections since August of last year. When cultured the bug came back as Thrush. This is something I have never ever heard of in the ear. Does anyone have any suggestion on a good way to treat this. She has been given ear drops, ear cream and antibiotics, unfortunately she is still a discomfort and above all cannot hear out of it.

Oral thrush is a yeast infection of the mucous membranes of the mouth and tongue. Thrush appears as whitish, velvety plaques in the mouth and on the tongue. Underneath the whitish material, there is red tissue that may bleed. The lesions can slowly increase in number and size. For thrush in infants, treatment is often NOT necessary. It generally resolves on its own within two weeks. Otherwise your doctor may prescribe an antifungal mouthwash or lozenges to suck on. These are usually used for 5-10 days. If they don't work, other medication may be prescribed.

Ears nose and throat are all connected. ive have never heard of Thrush of the ear, but like I said as they are all connected - why not thrush of the ear, babies get thrush in their mouths and throat. Try a Canestan cream available over the counter at any chemist.

That's a real bummer for your daughter and for you because you have to take care of her and you are right, it is very uncomfortable. I hope that the following information helps you.

Candida albicans is a type of parasitic yeastlike fungus that inhabits the intestines, genital tract, mouth, esophagus, and throat. Candidiasis can affect various parts of the body--the most common being the mouth, ears, nose, gastrointestinal tract, and vagina.

Unfortunately, the antibiotics that she had to take weakens the immune system and also destroys the "friendly" bacteria that normally keep candida under control.

Eat vegetables, fish, and gluten-free grains such as brown rice. Eat plain yogurt that contains live yogurt cultures. Take supplemental acidophilus or bifidus (which you can find at any health food store) to help restore the normal balance of flora in the bowels.

Make sure the diet is sugar free, for fungus thrives in a sugary environment, so her diet should be low in carbohydrates and contain no yeast products or sugar in any form. Avoid cheeses, chocolate, dried fruits, pickles, vinegar and soy sauce. Eliminate citrus and acidic fruits such as oranges, grapefruit, lemons, tomatoes, pineapples for about one month.

I know this sounds like a lot but there are many, many small children suffering from ear and throat infections and lots of times they can be cleared up with some attention to their diets. Good luck and God Bless!

Something that blocks out light. Thrush in the mouth is treated with a dark purple "iodine" to block out the light. It needs light to stay alive.

I am an alternative medicinal therapist and an ex nurse and I always recommend garlic oil capsules. My grandson had this and I brought some capsules and put half the capsules in twice a day. It worked. Garlic is the worlds strongest antibiotic, it is safe and natural. synthetic antibiotics damage our immune system and I try to avoid them if possible. Also you Can use mullein in liquid form. The health store has these
