What's wrong with Thailand?
Just because it isn't the USA?
Come on! There are places in this world that are as good as or better.. .yes... BETTER in certain ways than the land of milk and honey.
You know, that's what I've always hated.. stereotyping.

It's not stupid and I don't see anything wrong with traveling alone in Thailand. They do travel, learn the culture, experience new things and enjoy thier life. Is this called stupid?
And if man can travel in Thailand alone without being called stupid, girls can do the same!!
PS: I like traveling a lot lot more than stay home playing with my cat, baking cokkies and surfing internet. I enjoy travelling alone too. I'm happy with my life and It's OK for me if you think that I'm stupid.

Are you stupid or what? I've travelled through Asia alone and lived in Cambodia for years just me and my young son. Thailand is a great place to travel and generally very safe for females alone so long as they have a bit of common sense. It's really the single men who need to be careful as they have a bad habit of getting really badly screwed by some of the beautiful hookers they meet... It tends to be extremely damaging to their bank balance and often their psychological well being too.

As to why they go, I would guess either they're curious about another country/culture, they like the shopping opportunities or maybe they go for the same reason as many men... For example:
Though smaller in number than men, there are certainly female sex tourists. In fact, a number of Japanese women go to cities in Thailand such as Pattaya every year to be "serviced" by Nigerian men brought into the country just to work at man-brothels.

I generally agree with the posts that respond by asking "why shouldn't women travel alone?" Saying Thailand is dangerous to visit alone is a stereotype.....a wrong stereotype. Most places unsafe for women traveling alone is also dangerous for men too. However there are exceptions. Some nations with a "religious" police do not allow women to be traveling alone without their "man." I'd probably would not visit places like that unless.....I was really into archaeology or religious, social, etc studies that interested me intensely.

I'd MUCH rather my wife walk around by herself in Krungthep Thailand than San Jose CA in the US. Thailand is a beautiful place and yeah there is some petty crime, but FAR safer walking around in Thailand than it is in most places in the US.

For the same reason they travel to places like France, the UK, Mexico, Italy, Canada, etc. :
To see more of the world than the 4 walls in their home.
And no... not stupid. You should try traveling on your own some time.

Do you actually mean, since it is the sex destination capitol of the world, and a well known place for men to go get laid, then why do women go there? I suppose they can get laid too with all the horny men, or by women, in fact, while I was there the most beautiful white woman I have ever seen in person was in the Pattaya Hospital, she was very very hot! Also they can walk around topless in Phuket and rub elbows with the celebs or do the touristy thing too. What gets me is the family thing with little kids in Pattaya, now that is disturbing.

Hello,
(ANS) Frankly I find this a weird question, why? shouldnt women or young girls travel as much as young men!!. Isn't what your suggesting abit sexist and out of date in this day & age?
Just because someone happens to be female doesnt mean they dont have a sense of adventure, doesnt mean they dont want to see other places or countries, other cultures.
The life experience that can be gained from travel is without doubt worth much more than many university degree courses or educational formal bits of paper.
I for one fully endorse any woman who wants to travel, I think it shows a degree of courage, indepenance. Isnt it the fact that woman can and do travel alone that many men dont like frankly.
Stop treating woman as if they werent all incapable of independant travel, & advanture, & thinking for themselves. Good luck too them and more power to them too!
