ahhh, you have the dreaded white-coat syndrome! I would have mine taken after driving to the office- in heavy traffic and it would be so high! I would have to remember to calm myself down by thinking of emotionally good things. I'd think of my newborn baby and maybe of the book I am reading at the moment. I'm sure your doctor would put that into consideration. Many know that people get stressed out at the doc's office.

work at a cardiology office now and they make mention of "whitecoat" syndrome a lot. You can always get your pressure taken at a drug store machine or you can buy one yourself if you are very worried. Some of our patients take their own measurements and call them into us. =)

Try to breathe and relax- I know that doesn't always work though!

Don't worry. All of us do. It is very easy to say - 'relax'. But that is exactly what I am going to tell you. Relax. Think of something soothing and wonderful. It will help. In fact I would suggest you can visit this website to know more about BP and how to keep it under control. It certainly helped me. - http://ailments.in/hypertension.html

Yes, it's "white-coat" syndrome. I usually have it when I first have my B/P taken, but after a few mins it goes down. I agree. Have it taken again after the tests, and it probably has gone down.

Ask to have your BP taken after the exam is done. Its what I do and it makes a VAST difference!
