My teacher wants me to find out how others feel about Assisted Suicide. Should it be allowed or should doctors and nurses be punished. This is pertaning to those who are terminally ill and no other cases.

Toss another vote in favor.
Im hoping the laws will change.
Seniors are one of the highes group to committ suicide. I think many of them stem from having a terminal illness.
My sister in law's grandmother killed herself recently. She shot herself point blank. A family member found her days later...I can not imagine what went through the family members head when she found her there.
Maybe had this grandmother had options and could openly discuss this with her family maybe it could have saved alot of anguish and shock for the entire family.

I am for it. I know that if I get a terminal horrible illness, I will exit before it gets crappy for me and everyone else. Dying is NOT always peaceful. I kept hearing this and it didn't work that way for my dad. He was home on hospice and I was his caregiver. Nothing peaceful about it. I am still having nightmares. Blood coming from his mouth, legs, hands and other extremities so swollen that I couldn't touch him without him crying. If we let a dog lie that way in pain, we would be cited for cruelty to animals. Not all people who are terminal are on breathing tubes/feeding tubes, etc. Hospice people are usually not. My dad had a living will. He did not want to die in the hospital.

i think it is the choice of the person who is ill. know one else should be allowed to dictate a life. if a doctor or nurse is going to help they should not be punished. what a horribly hard thing to do, to assist in someones death and then be punished...ridiculous! the doctor or nurse should have some paid time off and a lot of support!

Yes, it should be legal. The patient should be terminally ill. He or she should be required to undergo a psychiatric evaluation. He or she should be required to wait at least 30 days between the time they request euthanasia and the time that it is carried out. I am sure that there are other logical restrictions and criteria that should be met, but that's all I can think of just now.

Good luck on your assigment!

It should be permitted absolutely. Any health professionals except sadists or religious fanatics would agree. I saw way too many people suffer lingering painful deaths when the could have gone with some semblance of dignity

After seeing several family members die from various forms of cancer I think that it should be allowed. When someone is dying from cancer even a little extra pain meds can cause their heart to stop. One of my uncles had cancer and only had enough room in his lungs for a thimble full of air and my mom knew he was in pain so she asked the doctor to give him some morphine, and he said that the morphine might stop his breathing, but he gave it to him and within about 20 minutes he was gone. He was suffering too much.

Thats why we have "Living Wills" I don't want to be kept alive on a machine or in a coma for the rest of my life. I think it is morally cruel to keep these incapicitated people alive just because of the emotional views of the family or what ever religion they believe in. You might love that person but how fair is it to see him/her live life eating through a straw of being hooked up to a machine to breath?

I'm in favor.

When there's nothing left to do but to wait to die, why prolong the agony?

If there's zero chance for survival, then by all means let the patient decide on their end.

Its far more dignified than screaming in agony or defecating all over one's self!

I believe everyone should a right to decide their fate when terminally ill.I rather a loved one watch me die in peace than have to wait around and watch me suffer until the end and vica-versa.
