If I haven't been eating enough (eg. 200 - 300 cals/day for a few weeks), why is it that I throw up? I know this isn't healthy, I don't want a lecture, but I would like to know why that's my body's response. You'd think it would want to hold onto any food that it did have, but instead I vomit until I eat something. Why?

I said I didn't want a lecture and I meant it. I have an eating disorder, this isn't a diet. It's a mental problem, and it's not something I'm doing willingly. Please spare me the moralizing and "healthy eating" tips, because they haven't worked for the past nine years and they're not going to work now.

These are just the PHYSICAL symptoms of starvation:
Decreased resting metabolic rate (RMR)
Drop in sex hormones
Decreased sexual interest
Amenorrhoea (no menses)
Reduced sperm production
Lanugo (growth of insulating hair)
Bone loss
Constipation and gastrointestinal upset
(Including nausea & vomiting)
Sleep disorder
Muscle weakness
Hypothermia
Loss of lean body mass
Changes in brain chemistry regulating appetite and food cravings
Stunted growth
Death
A starvation diet is not the way to go. Out of frustration, many people try to starve themselves to the proper weight. Starvation diets never works because:
The diet is impossible to maintain
Causes you to binge, especially late afternoon or evening
Slows your metabolism
Sets you up for failure
Starvation diets never work because your body requires fuel all through the day to properly function. By not eating, you become vulnerable to temptation. The first time you come across dessert or food you shouldn't eat, you'll break the diet and eat all the wrong foods. This leaves you feeling frustrated and defeated, which causes you to eat even more.
Instead of the starvation method, try eating 3 to 4 small meals through the day. Always eat breakfast and consume 300 to 400 calories each meal. By the end of the day, you will consume 900 to 1600 calories, which for a woman, will create a loss of 1 to 2 pounds per week. Your diet should be well balanced and include plenty of fruits and vegetables.

Whether you'll say I'm lecturing you, or not. The truth is that you haven't been eating nearly enough. 2 - 300 calories a day!?! Are you kidding me, you are starving your self. You should eat 15X calories your target body weight. In other words, if you want to weigh 120 lbs., you should eat 1800 calories with plenty of protein and very little sugar every day. Try eating healthy for a while and see if your body goes back to normal. If not, you need to see a doctor.

Thats actually a common effect of long-term starvation; The body can simply not handle more solid foods due to the decrease in activity. The fact that you're consuming 200-300 calories a day is UNHEALTHY and a DANGEROUS HEALTH RISK. You have NOT properly figured out your BMI and main calorie needs. You are decreasing your immune systems ability to fight disease, as well as your basic motor/mental development.
While you can properly figure out your proper diet needs via my source link, considering the amount of trauma you've potentially done to your body over this period of time, I'd HIGHLY suggest that you visit a doctor as soon as possible. They most likely will give you liquid suppliments for a few days, as WELL as be able to help you plan out a PROPER diet plan.
For your own well being and for a better, well-designed diet? Please visit your personal health care facilities as soon as possible.

So... the SHORT answer is that when people starve, eating will make them sick, basically without fail, because the stomach lining dries out. You have to take it really slowly, with soft foods, and only a little bit.
Read some stories about soldiers during World War II, or people in the Holocaust. Once in awhile you get something about how they didn't have food for whatever time and either they got sick when they got to eat (ravenously, probably), or the other people wouldn't let them eat in order to keep them from getting sick.

You're pregnant.
No? Oh well, it was a guess.
Anyway, this isn't a lecture, just info... Did you know that you will lose more weight if you eat 6 small meals a day then eating nothing (which is what you are doing) Wanna know why? Your body knows it's starving so it is hanging on to every little bit of food it gets including fats. Feed it something.

It may be independent of your diet. A lot of people now have a virus that gives them projectile vomiting. It lasts for several days and has no tolerance at all for any food or drink.
