I'll be filing my taxes either online or using one of the box sets (such as Taxcut, Taxact, etc...). Can I write off my car payments or interest, my gas mileage to and from work, or any other expenses that I pay everyday?

If you are an employee with a regular work place, daily commuting is not deductible. Interest on your car loan is never deductible for an employee. Certain unreimbursed expenses that you are required to have because of your job, such as driving during your workday, might be deductible.

Follow the tax interview in your software. It will lead you to whatever deductions are allowable.

If your car is used for your job, the expenses are deductable as "work expense". CHeck the 1040 instructions for details, about where these items are supposed to be placed on the tax form.

I wish. But I don't think it is likely. It has to be a business expense. Driving to work is not a business expense. lol
