Do you have to meet APFT requirements upon entering the army or at the end of basic training? Also, does everyone have to meet the same requirements (if you're doing a desk job, do you have to be able to do the same as someone in combat)?

The APFT standards the Army has are the same for everyone regardless of the MOS. Though you will find that some units have higher requirements. Like those in SF. A score of 60 in each category (push-ups, sit-ups, 2 mile run) is passing. But like I said, some units have higher requirements to stay in that particular unit. And yes, to graduate from basic you have to pass the Army APFT. If you're not in shape before going to basic you will be VERY sorry.

At the end of BCT you must score 50% or higher for you age group and sex on each part of the APFT...push-ups, sit-ups, and run...the draw back to that is in AIT and the rest of the time you are in the Army you have to do 60%...the minimum is never good...you will never get promoted...I had a CSM who use to say a PT test should be an easy day of PT...and if you unit's PT program is good, it will be...

At the end of Basic Training
Everyone has the same minimum standard, regardless of job. Certain jobs have extra requirements and certain bosses have different expectations. Most leaders in the infantry expect officers and NCOs to score at least 270 and normally 300, the minimum for the Army is 180. Your score may affect your evaluation, but you can only get booted if you fail an event or score below 180.
