Your "class" has nothing to do with it. Accept the fact that teenagers act like teenagers no matter where they are. You and your family may be the exception to the rule, but that happens all the time.

Welcome to the reality of teenagers. This is more common than you think. Hospitals actually administer pregancy tests to any female over the age of 9 years old if they're in the ER.

Living in an upper middle class area or the inner city, rich or poor, black or white, private school or public school - it doesn't matter. Kids are doing it. To try to avoid your kid being a statistic - make sure he or she knows your beliefs on sex outside marriage and that you expect them to be responsible. Teach them what, EXACTLY, you expect as responsible.

I've found that the fewer rules and time with the parents a kid has, the more apt they are to have sex young or dabble in drugs or other things. I'm not saying ALL kids who have no rules or stuff like that are doing this, but a good many are.

This is a growing epidemic everywhere in every race, & social class. You should deffinatley keep talking to your son about the importants of abstinance, as well as the way a female body works & why he should respect it! You should also tell that childs parents what is going on? (You would want someone to come to you... right?) Even his his family gets mad at you or your son! They should be informed!!!

Kids today have a lot more questions, because they are so exposed to sex in everyday life. When they feel they have a question that might upset you, or embarass you they go to their friends, who, most of the time, give really bad advice or wrong answers. (Have you seen how many people/teens are on here asking if they, "had unprotected sex but he pulled out, can I still get pregnant?" questions!!!) And why is pregnancy a much bigger fear for most than say STD's like AIDS, syphilys & herpes!? Please keep talking to your son, educate him well in all aspect of sexual education...& make it the least bit scary of embassasing!!! Whe you start to feel angry or embarassed, let your fear drive you... My borther in-law (age 24) just lost a good friend (age 22) of AIDS!!!! It can happen to anyone, anywhere, anytime, that is just the reality of what is happening!

Welcome to 2007...We lived in a wonderful neighborhood...and I caught my neighbors 12 year old in the middle of the act with a 11 year old girl...both kids were students at a very elite day school
Parents work...and kids play!
I also volunteered at a pro-life clinic, and was AMAZED at the number of 12-13 year olds that came in asking for a pregnancy test, some were not even physically able to get pregnant (no monthly cycle). When children are that young, I can't help but wonder where the parents think they are, and how the got to a big city clinic on their own!
It is so good that you have open talks with your son, don't freak when he talks to you about these issues..keep the channels open!

Awww did something just set a light bulb off in your upper middle class world. Suprise kids have sex all over the world in all classes at that age. Have you seen the kids in the rich neighborhoods turning into crack heads??? oh or is your head so far up your *** that this actually comes as a shock to you. I suggest to wisen up or your kids going to be doing a lot of things that might give you a heart attack.

Jesus lady I dont mean to be insulting but can you be that naive your the mother of three and this is surprising you how many girls in your high school got pregnant these kids mature physically alot quiker than we did but they get thier info (not all of it accurate) way before they should and free time they get tons of it honestly if I could have found a girl to have sex with when I was 13 Id have done it as often as I could no I wasnt raised in a permissive home Id have found a way wether mother liked it or not . Oh one more thing socio economic factors dont play into it affluence doesnt supress sexual urges

It does not matter where you live(upper middle class area?!!) so what!! It happens everywhere. That is what tens are doing. If you let your son out anywhere and everywhere just because he wants to then you will become a grandmother. He might be a innocent boy but there are "Hot Mama" out there that are attracting these boys and these boys are going after them to be popular and "known".I have a 14 year old son and I don't let him go anywhere with out an "responsible"adult is with him and he is home everyday from school on time.If you feel like he is sexually active ;talk with him and if he says he is go to the health dept for (free condoms) and they will talk to him about the use of them and the outcome of not using them.

It's funny that you think that because your living in an upper middle class area that your exempt from normal life? Being public or private school it's all the same. Be happy it's not your son that got a girl pregnant

Yes kids that age are having sex! I've worked in quite a few shelters and have seen lots of girls under 15 with babies and seems to be getting more common. I believe in some states its illegal to have sex before a certain age so you might want to check that out, if it is the gyno will report it to the authorities either way.
... See the value of teaching kids to prevent pregnancy? Turning your heads and pretending it isn't true doesn't help.

Because he's just one raging hormone. Just read some of the questions in the adolescent section. I've seen question about 10 year olds having sex. The idea about private schools, parochial schools not having problems like that are just a myth.
