Being a Protestant Bible, the King James Version is missing the apochrypha -- which has always been a part of the Catholic Bible. Martin Luther decided that they were not the holy word of God -- so edited them out of the Protestant Bible.

You can get a copy of the NIV that includes the apochrypha -- so the answer to your question is that there are verses in the NIV that are not in the KJV -- but they were not added to the NIV, they were deleted from the KJV..

No verses per se, but the content can be very different. The NIV alters the verses in the Bible to state what the translator thought the King James version was trying to say, but if you read the same chapter of the King James version and the NIV version of the Bible you will get a very different sense of what the writer is teaching and about the life of Christ. The NIV may be simpler to read with less big words, but I still prefer it. The NIV verses still get across a general meaning, and no verses are added or taken away.

The other poster is incorrect. The apocrypha was never a part of Old or New Testament of the King James version, and Martin Luther, while recognizing there were truths he believed in that the Catholic Church would not let him teach, did not create a version of the Bible, with or without the Apocrypha.

No, there aren't. They are just different translations. See, the Bible was written in several different scripts/languages. As time has passed and more has become understood about the ancient languages, new interpretations have manifested themselves. The NIV is still just as unaltered as the King James, but the King James version mistranslated a few words. Plus, NIV is more readable for modern times--no Thee, Thou, Thy, Thine etc. Some will argue with me on this point, but I've been taught about some of the translation things in college and books.

I'm not aware of versus added to the NIV, but many of the words are translated differently, which can change the meaning of a verse.
