If you have a lot of money to throw away, get an attorney. If not (and you will need lots of money for the divorce attorney in two years when your spouse gets the permanent green card) do it yourself.
Why do I mention the divorce? Because 9 times out of 10 that is EXACTLY what happens. And why not? The alien gets a "Green Card" (should be called a "Gold Card") gets to come to the USA. And after putting up with the US Citizen for just 2 years gets half of everything that he owns! Normally, that amount of money is equal to about 20 years worth hard work in the Philippines!
Many have learned about the value of life insurance. This means that if something were to happen, then they get more money then they ever dreamed of getting.
And with the new Spousal Abuse law all they have to do is stick it out for just a year or so and then claim spousal abuse. That way, the US Citizen gets his/her whole life messed up permanently.
But of course you are thinking that your fiance REALLY loves you and you two are the 1 in 10 that don't end up in divorce with 5 years!
After all you have known each other for years? Months? Weeks? Days? or is this another internet romance?
Did you know that many of these young ladies spend hours carrying on these romances with multiple men. Then they get a "bite" and reel that one in.
So do what you want, and I hope I am wrong, but experience tells me otherwise.

Actually you can do it yourself, since the process is so simple. You will save time and money. When you hire an attorney, you do so because you want him to make sure that your rights are not violated.
But, believe me, most attorneys do nothing but fill out the forms, and let the paperwork go through the normal process. Who needs a lawyer for that. Get one if there are any problems with your I-129F (Petition for Alien Fiance(e)).

You can do it yourself.
Attorneys know the details of working with the system but you can too.
The US government has help lines and most frequent questions on their web site as to this issue. Check it out and call them. They can be quite helpful.
If you really feel uncomfortable with this then by all means hire an attorney.

Get a attorney! Because every form you send in some pin-head in the govt. will screw up. It took almost 6 months to obtain a fiance visa for my daughters boy friend. The Aussies and the U.S. dumb-a ***s kept goofing up. A real night-mare!

Its reall not that hard to do it yourself, but if you forsee a problem, then maybe using an attorney could be beneficial. Many attorneys know the format and how to speed up the process.

If there is a reputable not-for-profit immigration group in your area I would start there. They would be able to recommend a good lawyer and get the process started. They would cost you much less too.

It cost me more than $8000.00 to make sure my daughter in law could become a legal citizen and yes, it was easier than doing it on my own.
And why am I so annoyed at those pesky illegal folks....
