The wax that our ears produce may build up in the ear canal or the wall of the cochlea, hindering the free swings of the cilia. When the cilia cannot detect and translate external stimuli via the auditory nerve it could be due to excess wax, no impulses precede to the brain. This means that the brain will have nothing to translate into sounds; in that manner your hearing ability is impaired.
The amount of ear wax people produce varies. Some people produce more ear wax than others. When there is excessive ear wax, it can proceed to block the hearing nerve, thus preventing the transmission of impulses from the cilia to the brain. Your hearing ability may be reduced and/or your tinnitus becomes louder. The slab of wax may create its own sound, confusing the brain which the brain misinterprets as sound.
Never try to remove ear wax yourself with any type of instrument, such as a Waterpik, Q-tip, bobby pin, or toothpick. Such tools often cause injury to the ear canal or perforate the ear drum. They may dislodge the small bones in the middle ear behind the eardrum. They can even damage the inner ear, causing permanent hearing loss. A safe way to remove ear wax is to dissolve it with warm water, baby oil, or eardrops. It is wise to consult a healthcare provider before attempting any of these procedures.
I hope this will help. Take care

I have same problem. Specialist tells me the best thing to do is flood ear with peroxide, to loosen 3x a day for 2 days, then self irrigate while in shower. Try to avoid Q-tips, it packs the wax.

Earwax builds up naturally over a period of time. You need to go to your doctor to have your ears irrigated. This safetly removes the excess earwax and you will hear and feel better.
