The most embarrassing thing(s) just happened to me, a plumber came to my house to fix my toilet today, I was in my p.js when he got here- when I went over to the toilet to show him what was wrong, I bent over and flashed him MY plummer crack! I kind of tried to play it off.. "mmm.. maybe he didn't see?" ... then, after he fixed the problem, he opened my trash can to throw the old parts away .. AND!.. my husband had left a used condom RIGHT ON TOP! he tried to shove the old parts in, but when they wouldn't fit he pulled them out- and.. the condom stuck to the pipe. OH THE EMBARRASMENT! what could I do? I couldn't igrore that! I just laughed and said " Ah... I'm sooo sorry." He was So nice and professional about it- but I still feel Mortified!

Hey, he was in your house. There is no need for you to be embarrassed. People do have sex, people do relax in their own homes, and show a lil "crack" every now and then..plus im sure he's seen worse...but to answer the question, if i trip in front of a crowded room, i try not to act embarrassed, i act like people are supposed to. I say "damn, im clumsy." People are thinking it, i laugh about it, they laugh, and it keeps me from feeling embarrassed about it. We dont have to be perfect in our lives...we will show some crack, we will trip over things, we will fall, its life, no need to be embarrassed.

You handled it perfectly, by saying "I'm sorry" and moving on.
Now, for my advice to you: stop taking yourself so seriously! It's a funny story! SB said it well - you're DOOMED if you can't laugh at life.
And if that doesn't work, take comfort in the fact that as a professional plumber, he's most definitely seen MUCH worse than what he found at your house!!

I share my embarrassing moments. I have found that they may make someone's day. And when someone does something embarrassing in front of me, I share when I've done something equally as uncomfortable. Trust me, a plumber has seen more used condoms than you care to think about; a lot of people flush them and then need his services.
And as for the plumber's crack, I'm sure he didn't care.

I have found the best way to remove the embarrassment or difuse it is to make it into a joke and laugh it off. It is amazing how fast it comes and goes with no pain. If you turn red, try to explain, dont talk, it just gets worse.
Believe me when I say most people love a good belly laugh and many times they are not really laughing at you they will laugh with you.
Great way to ease up the room and relieve any stress. Try it next time.

You reacted perfectly. Miss Manners would say that a short "I'm sorry" and then changing the subject would be the right thing to do. Other embarassing things, like falling down or dropping a plate in your lap (done that) - you just need to laugh it off. Just turn the tables and think how others feel. They probably sympathize, so don't sweat it.

That is soooo funny. I actually laughed out loud. Well, at least now you have a funny story to tell people. It's no big deal, think of what he deals with all day, I'm sure it's not the only used condom he's ever come in contact with.

I think your reaction was typical and correct, if this guy is a professional plumber then i can assure you he has been in worse situations than this.
