I am looking to buy a wine, either for myself or a friend, that can't really stand the "bitter" taste of a fine wine. What would you suggest? I'm not looking for an expensive wine or am I looking for a cheap wine. Thanks in advance!

Couple options for you:

isabel estate Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. Bevmo carries this most of the time. It is $16.99 per bottle. It is a white wine and has a very wonderful citrus, grapefruit taste to it. think light and crisp.

Luna Pinot Grigio also a white, but from Napa Valley around the same price. Again is a very nice light white wine. Took some to a party in indianapolis and everybody loved it. And the people at the party are not wine people.

Wild Horse Zinfandel is a red from Paso Robles, California. Very nice berry flavors

Cambria Julia's Pinot Noir is a red from Santa Barbara that is nice light...think the movie Sideways.

King Estate Pinot Noir is a red from Oregon that is also nice and light.

I believe most all of these are under $30. It has been a while since I bought some of the reds and don't remember their prices off hand.

I would stay away from things like Cabernet Sauvignon. As the "bitter" taste that you mention is caused by tannins in the wine. Cab usually has more of that.

Good luck.

Get yourself to a good liquor store that has a good wine selection and ask the wine manager to recommend something. It's such a personal taste thing - "fine" wines shouldn't taste bitter at all, that's why they're fine! But if you don't like it, then it's not good for you. Some better liquor stores have wine tastings which are a good way to test wines without the expense of buying a whole bottle. A good wine manager will listen to what you're looking for and be able to suggest something. So many great wines can be had for around $10 a bottle. My personal faves are Coppola reds, especially the Zinfindel (yes, the movie director, Francis Ford Coppola has a vineyard) and Hess Vineyards, both from California.

Bitter taste has nothing to do with price, its type of wine. Any type of wine can be cheap, it just depends on who makes it. Since you don't like bitter, you should probably stay away from red wines altogether. You sound like you would enjoy a Reisling, White Zinfandel or Gewürztraminer. If you are really not interested in wine, you can drink something called Lambrusco. It's basically grape juice with alcohol. Hope this helped.

You don't say if you want red, white, blush or something else. There are so many wines out there these days. So here's my suggestion.

You can get a good bottle for $8-$15

Red: Sterling Cabernet - hardy
Red: Nathanson Creek Merlot - smooth but kinda hardy
Pinot Noir (red) : David Bruce - smooth
White: Kendall Jackson Chardonnay - tangy
Blush: Sutter Home White Zinfindel - fruity
Rose: Light, fruity & sometimes too bubbly

This is only my taste.
Good luck & have fun!!

"Bitter" is not inherent in fine wine. For white, try Chardonnay. For red, try Merlot. Both of these are sweeter than the more bitter varietals, and are widely enjoyed.

Spend ~$8+ for a good bottle, but you don't need to go overboard. A good bottle of wine can be found in the $8-12 range.

I like a white wine in the '2' taste range. Not too dry and not too sweet. I think 'Piat D'or' is a good wine both red and white. It is an Italian wine I think.

Schedule a wine-tasting tour of your local wineries. It will help you to know what you like & experience the fine flavors of the reds & whites.
Meanwhile, go to Bev-Mo & ask the wine buyer, there. Often, they will give you a taste of what they recommend. Enjoy the experience! wine is wonderful!

There are way to many varitals to just say get this or that. Just go buy a bottle and try it. Go to a resteraunt or bar and talk to the wine guy and ask thier suggestions. Talk to friends that drink wine and go drink at their place to try different varitals.

There are way too many variables to make a single suggestion.

look for wines that don't have too many tanins. also, avoid dry wine. look for something with notes of blackberry, fruit, vanilla.

I like all of the Castle Rock (california) wines

Also, you may like an argentine wine called La Yunta--it is my favorite and is 11.00!
