There is no such dog as a Pit Bull. This is a term used (by mostly uneducated people) to describe all dogs that fall into the "Bully Breed" category. They are Bull Terriers, American Pit Bull Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, and American Stafforshire Bull Terriers. There are loads of other dogs that people confuse for Pits, however, including, Boxers, Mastiffs, Dogo Argentas, Casa Prenarias, and Dogue de Bordeaux, to name a few, and they sometimes end up being referred to a "pit bulls" as well.

You will probably need the special license for your Staffie should laws come to that. Sad but true, as Staffies score as one of the highest on temperament tests...usually at about 93%. That's higher than beagles, labs, germans shepherds, and chihuahuas. But because of how they look and the general media hype surrounding them, there are a lot of people who feel they are a threat to the public.

Well first off licensing this dog will help it get home if lost. A staffie is a Pit Bull they are recognized as the same breed a pit bull like dog means that they look or have characteristics of the pit bull breed. and just rmember pit bull dogs are not the only ones on this list this will aslo include dalmations, rotties, dobs, and others. All dogs in our county are required to be licensed We also carry extra insurance for our dogs just in case. We have two pits and we are being proactive about this we have signs up warning people we have dogs and we don't allow them to jump on people they are both well trained and I would trust them with any situation . Hope this helps you out.

A Staffordshire bull terrior is the first of the pitbull breeds. The American pitbull was breed from the staffordshire terrier and yes it is labeled as a dangerous dog. However it is wrong to label all pitbulls as dangerous it all depends on the owner and how the dog was raised.

This phrase usually applies to cross breeds that look and act more like a Pit Bull Terrier than the other part of the cross breeding. The cross breeding often includes Bull Terriers , Staffordshire Bull Terriers and American Staffords as well as the American Bulldog which looks nothing like an English Bulldog.
They all have a low flash point and can be very unpredictable in temperament, hence all the horrible biting incidents.

Hi,
I can't believe that some people are mixing up Two different breeds. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier can't be compared to the Pitbull.
The Stafford is not classed as a dangerous dog,any dog regardless of breed has the potenial to be dangerous.
If liciensing our breed will stop the morons/irresponsible people owning them then i'm all for it.

i dnt know if u will need a licence, but pitt pull dogs are usually other races of dogs crossed with pit bulls, and they need to have a certain number of characteristics to be considered dangerous. most of the time if they are well trained, they're not even dangerous, but the goverment's still annoyed...better get ure dog checked by someone and be and the right side of the law...

the reason why the want to pass the act is because pitt bull dogs have been known to kill people so they want to band them in some states but its not that dog its the owners that are responsible for their behavior. people breed pitt bulls for fighting and to make money, thats why Pitt bulls are naturally aggressive dogs (its in their blood). i own 2 of them and they cause me no problems what so ever as far as your bull terrier i really don't know if you will need a license to own one, you would have to call your local SPCA and they should be able to give you more information.

Well, I can't predict future legislation, but among dog fanciers, a Staffy bull is often compared to "pit bulls" -- in fact, "pit bull" is not a proper breed name at all. Sometimes a Staffy is called a pit bull. If your dog has been raised with love and properly trained not to be agressive, he should not be a dangerous dog. Any dog will be a biter if it is mistreated and badly trained. "Pit bulls" are more dangerous if raised badly because they are by nature more agressive, are strong, and built for fighting, but properly raised are complete sweethearts (not real smart, but wonderful pets). I am opposed to this legislation btw -- penalizes the good owners and the bad owners who raise dogs for fighting (a cruel, inhuman practice) won't follow licensing laws anyway.

Staffordshire is a fancy name for pitt bull. If you raise the dog with lots of love there will be no problems. My parents have 2 pitt bulls and they are such cream puffs! I haven't heard anything about licensing though...is this in a particular state?

Ya know I think Its a responsible owners part to train their dog.. and it it has aggressing it should be kept in a fence or away from those it could harm.I have a lab-pitt and people see him and they say oh what a sweet lab... but as soon as u say he has pitt there attitudes change. You might end up having to get a license. It causes me to wonder if I would have to get a license for my dog.. even though he is mixed! It is a ridiculous law.The problem is irresposible people who let their dogs run all over neighbor hoods till they bite some one..You dont know what happens to them when they arent in your site.I wish you good luck anyways!
