put it this way, if matter was the first thing there, then if it wasn't always there, it had to have a started point, therefore had to be created

yea- you're right there are some bits science can't explain and if we go to far with science we go crazy!
e.g. if this created this and this created this then what created this???
or
what came first the egg or the chicken?
or
Why did the big bang happen at such a precise time?
or
How far does the universe go?
and so on

THE NEW HEAVENS AND THE NEW EARTH
I have not read any where that science is able to make a new heavens and a new earth. And the bible is the first to tell about it. 2Pet.3:13; Isa.65:17; Rev,21:1-5; All is new. Rev.21:23 all the eliments are covered. Job 38:30-32 as in the beginning.

It depends on what you define as god, and what you define as the universe.
Science does not say that the universe is not eternal, but merely the galaxies, and stars we see today were a product of a massive expansion of energy billions of years ago. This does not means that nothing existed before hand.
Add:
Ha, you get your science from a religious website! That's rich. Now try going somewhere reputable.

Btw, I have been in the astronomy profession for 10 years. I know what I am talking about.

Sorry for the short answer - I lost my internet connection.
Anyway, just because science believes that the universe is only 13-14 billion years old doesn't prove that there is a god. It simple means that an event that we call the Big Bang probably happened at that time in the past. Before that we have no idea.
That's not good, that's not bad. That's just the limits of our knowledge at this point. And just because our knowledge has limits doesn't mean that we have to prove that magic occurred.

Nonsense. The natural integers have a starting Point "Zero" and they are not created. Ask your self a question "Was the temperature scale created at absolute zero?" Of course not!!
Were longitude lines created at the North Pole? Of course not!!
Just because something has a "beginning" point does not imply that it is a creation point. To think that is true is obviously a ridiculous logical fallacy.

Sorry Jon, I can't follow your line of reasoning. We don't know if the universe is eternal or not, but either way, what does that have to do with any of the thousands of Gods that have come and gone ?
Nothing is less eternal than the Gods who did their hour upon the stage and are heard no more.

If science is right & the universe is not eternal, then the Flying Spaghetti Monster has to exist, right?
It's called a non sequitur.

Even if science did prove a god created us, it does not prove it was the god of the bible.

I think you have it backward. Science would like us to believe that the universe has always been here, but the Bible teaches that God created the universe and started the process that we call time.

"Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my word shall not pass away." Matthew 24:35,Mark 13:31,Luke 12:33.
Looks like God knew that this universe was going to pass away way before scientist did doesn't it.Note: He still exists after it's gone.
